Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
SAINTS MAY USE FOUR PICKS
While a number of clubs only have – or are only planning to use – two picks in this year’s draft, other sides are considering making up to four selections.
St Kilda is one club which could come away with a more sizeable draft haul than most, given it holds picks 9, 28, 32 and 47.
Even if the Saints use all four selections, they would still be left with two open list spots to use during the pre-season supplementary selection period or next year’s mid-season draft.
While there are question marks over the depth of this year’s draft, some clubs believe there could still be players they like available in the 40s.
The Saints have been linked to their Next Generation Academy prospect Cameron Mackenzie at pick 9 and are also believed to have some interest in West Australian key defender Jedd Busslinger.
A player like explosive Gippsland Power midfielder-forward Bailey Humphrey would also be a nice fit for St Kilda.
However, Humphrey is expected to already be off the board by pick 9, given he has some strong interest from Hawthorn (pick 6).
The Saints were thrilled with their draft haul last year and believe another good draft could help set them up for success under new coach Ross Lyon.

Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
I read today that the Saints have invited Liam Stocker to train with them and they are also talking to Jack Madgen, a 192 cm defender, about a role at the Saints.
Are these the type of players we need, i wouldn't have thought so, seems like the review's broom hasn't swept out pointless recruiting.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
Agreed why would we look at another 192cm guy we have we have over 6 players 191-193cm what we do need is a big defender of at least 197cm who can play on the big forwards we get monstered with these mid size KPDs.
Someone like a jarred Brander 197cm 95kg Zach Sproule 198cm 94kg just 2 players who might be better and who are free to pick up!

Hold your horses..Jack Madgen would be a Sandringham listed player with an off field role at St. Kilda…a dual role and NOT a saints listed player!

The knock on Narkle is he’s a one way runner with an ordinary work ethic…has been given countless opportunities at Geelong.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Tue 11 Oct 2022 9:44pmI would rather Quinton Narkle as a DFA. He can play forward aswell as mid and his kicking is better.
I’d like us to take a punt on Stack, high risk I know but I really like him!

Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
Still talk that we're looking to trade to secure a higher first round pick than our current 9 and I'm assuming it's to increase our chances of getting Mackenzie. The kid looks great but the way I see it, we are going to get a top rated mid anyway. If it's not Mackenzie, it'll be one of Phillipou, Tsatas, Humphrey or Clark based on the pundits' predictions.saynta wrote: ↑Thu 17 Nov 2022 1:28pm Adelaide

Not sure it's worth it unless we really rate Cam Mackenzie THAT highly

Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
I kind of agree but if we could tempt GWS with a swap of our future 2nd for their future 3rd and an exchange of our 2nd round draft picks in this year's draft for their 2nd round picks...it may work favourably if there are a couple of sliders, like Hewitt or similar.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Sun 20 Nov 2022 10:21am I hope we don’t trade our future picks..sounds like next years draft is a ripper!

It would be nice to get one of GWS picks in the teens.

Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
The problem though is if WCE do not call out Reuben Ginbey at pick 9. They will not call out Busslinger that early.silverhalo wrote: ↑Sat 19 Nov 2022 10:42pm

So if they do not call out Reuben Ginbey's name, then we are screwed as all the good mids will then be gone before our pick.
So instead of a second tier quality mid, we get first choice of the third tier mids.
The 'pundits" believe that WCE will go for Ginbey because he is a local boy, and so no " go home" risk. But it guarantees them taking a hit in quality. If they go for best available instead, then we miss the better mids.

Re: Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion
The Fox Footy have declared our interest in Van Es and Hewett -
"The Bombers have been linked to WA on-baller Elijah Hewett, who’s also been linked to St Kilda. Although it’s been suggested the Saints will target a key-position player with one of their second-rounders, with GWV Rebels backman James Van Es linked to the club."

i reckon if we can get any mid like tsatts, phillpou, mackenzie or clark that would be a win and i think we should try get 198 cm Isaac keeler with pick 28 and then with pick 35 try get a ruck like 206cm Max Knobles who could develope

Madgen has gone to the SANFL, i wonder if Banger had anything to do with trying to get him to Sandy/Saints.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Sat 19 Nov 2022 8:13amSaints58 wrote: ↑Fri 18 Nov 2022 11:16pm Agreed why would we look at another 192cm guy we have we have over 6 players 191-193cm what we do need is a big defender of at least 197cm who can play on the big forwards we get monstered with these mid size KPDs.

Watching Brisbane get Ashcroft for a pile of goat s*** picks while we miss an Academy pick is magnificent.

Really I might have played against you being from Ashwood and playing for Burwood Ashburton were a very rough side especially after they combined with Jordy juniors.
