Spoke to my Carlton supporter relative who has contacts at the club.

Carlton wanted to use Stocker in midfield but he didn't have the tank so they played him at half back. Couldn't keep up during preseason practice matches when played on ball. Fatigued too quickly. They lost patience with him because they weren't convinced he was willing to put in the extra work. Make if that what you will

Unrealistic about his fitness?

Anyway, can't guarantee the validity of all that. I'll take his word for it. He reckons Stocker can play, and says that he's not afraid of the physical side of the game. Good enough to play AFL but needs to get fitter and perhaps improve his attitude

He looks pretty good in the highlight reel but in a few shots he looks to have a bit of a gut - hopefully being delisted and a move to a new environment is exactly what he needs to get him working hard-

If his fitness is a concern, I'm hopeful David Misson would be aware and will work out a plan.
Harves being an absolute workhorse, would hopefully find some way to help too. Setting goals, benchmarks, workload...

You’d think that having a bad attitude towards fitness is not going to be acceptable by a coaching panel including Harvey and Hayes.
I would think that if there was any sort of issue regarding that it would have been discussed prior to him receiving an invitation to train.

Ankle op with 3 months off, disrupted preseason, plus Carlton's midfield was deep for most of the year and at halfback they have their folk hero. Circumstances might have favoured us, one factor being Blues innate hubris and impatience.

Liam Stocker.....mmmm, didn't impress me overly in the games I saw him play but looking at the highlights reel, he shows a bit.

Few observations:-

- Haileybury boy and plenty of good ones have come out of there
- As tough as a cat's head which will please Ross no end
- Good turn of foot and good kick off left/right
- Has battled with his demons which may have impacted his game
- Will challenge our captain in the glamour stakes
- Will cost nothing

But the clincher, apparently he's a Saints supporter so sign him up!

That's how it goes for a Saints supporter, incompetence is to be expected, regardless of the review's broom size.

He's been described as an explosive inside midfielder who is a good kick on both sides ... he won the Morrish medal.

Didn't have much luck with injury early on.

Could flourish in the right environment?

Stocker could play as a mid-sized forward pocket even, early on?
He is a good tackler and has some goal sense.

Good tackler, good spoiler, good contested mark, good reader of the play and busy. He's had some issues but the invitation is there. It's now up to him. He's the type of player that appeals to RL.

Stock has been labelled as a slow plodder, poorly skilled, and not up to it. But after watching his AFL & TAC Cup highlight this is simply not the case. He appears to have a good burst of pace, tough and tackles, but lacks endurance. And he has been played out of position!!! He's s midfielder and if he needs to build his tank that's what he should be told. He certainly has more up side than a 4 round draft pick.
