I am now looking forward to next year
Couple of weeks ago I could not have given a rats arse

Re: Let’s get fair dinkum
Yep, I do.
As unexpected as the Ratten decision was, as soon as it happened I felt better. No disrespect to Ratten who gave it a good go.
I think it was Goethe who said:
Boldness has genius in it.
And then the appointment of Lyon, and all of a sudden you can feel momentum again.

Would a premiership help?
Ross seems pretty keen to take another shot at one.

Being fair dinkum this appointment can only go two ways , a period of success ( and we're all hoping for the ultimate success ) or we crash and burn like we never have before
So I say In Ross we trust !
But with all the confidence of a 49 years and counting St kilda supporter.

Re: Let’s get fair dinkum
Reality - our most successful coaches post WW1:
1. A. Jeans - One Premiership, twice runners-up
2. R. Lyon - twice runners up with one drawn GF
3. S. Alves - once runners-up
4. G. Thomas - two Preliminary Finals, both beaten by the eventual premiers
In the 1980's we took a reigning premiership coach in Alex Jesaulenko and a subsequent premiership coach in Tony Jewell and made them look mugs, reinforcing the old saying that good players make good coaches. A knock on Rosco is that saying still applies. I am old enough in age but fresh enough in memory to remember the knockers of Alan Jeans, who stood down after 16 seasons at the end of 1976. It was truly the end of the Saints greatest era yet he was derided for always being too defensive, too loyal to his old stars and too reluctant too play young players. The latter comment was made often, overlooking the fact that Mynott, Neale, Breen, Moran, Davis and Payze were all third, second or first season players in our Premiership win.
Jeans, after a four season break, then became widely acknowledged as an even better coach second time around with Hawthorn. Adding another three premierships can do wonders for public perceptions, doesn't it? It could have been four with the Hawks had a blood clot not derailed him - Alan Joyce, how lucky was he?
Truth be known, Rossy's biggest mistake was going straight to Freemantle when he was pretty spent after his time with the Saints. Three years in the media may prove to be the perfect elixir for him. We can argue whether we went after him or not, the facts are clear that he WANTS to coach us - not another club! This is the opposite of another premiership coach we made look a comlete mug. Malcolm Blight, come on down!
I am hopeful. Still. And again.

Yeah very optimistic now. Was so deflated when Ratten was extended. Now things are looking so much more exciting. Has re-kindled my enthusiasm for the Saints. Forum is busier and better place as well. The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 24 Oct 2022 2:27pm I am now looking forward to next year

Re: Let’s get fair dinkum
For better or worse Ross Lyons is our coach for 4 years (contracted anyway) so time to get behind him. I look forward to being pleasantly surprised by his ability to develop young talent and bringing a new game plan that suits our team. He mentioned in the presser that he thinks our team can run so let’s see what his plans are
He also mentioned that he is going to be out of the weeds more so I assume that means he will let each coach do their thing and he will focus on the game plan. If nothing else st kilda has become relevant again, at least for the moment

In hindsight a master stroke by the club. This will rejuvenate and reset the supporters aspirations and increase membership the return of banger can’t hurt eitherst.byron wrote: ↑Mon 24 Oct 2022 4:38pmYeah very optimistic now. May as well embrace it.
Yes it could crash and burn , but then again we may just win a flag.
I don't think any hard core Saints fan expects anything like an easy ride.. .but you may as well get on board.

Re: Let’s get fair dinkum
A Sainter friend passed away this year, and a pity he will miss all this. He once contacted the president, maybe last year and basically said he was sick of all the mediocre performances in games, and I think the president did respond to him. Let's hope it's not all talk and we see real action in 2023.

Re: Let’s get fair dinkum
I am already seeing peoples hatred for stkilda growing since Ross Lyon was appointed.
I suppose that is better than nobody caring about you.
As they say the only thing worse than everyone taking about you behind your back, is nobody taking about you.
I will give Lyon another chance.

Re: Let’s get fair dinkum
It sounds like Lyon genuinely felt some remorse for past events.
Sounds like there was a bit of baggage there. Obviously related to the people he felt that he abandoned.
Guilt does strange things to people.

This is good being hated. I don't want people's sympathy or you are my second favourite club rubbish. We haven't been hated since Lyon last coached us.
