Hahahaha Yes! I was joking about this with some mates earlier. Although, Merrick was the last name of the Elephant Man in David Lynch’s film from 1980, not the actual last name of the real person referred to as “The Elephant Man”. From memory, he had a similar sounding name, however.

Ross Lyon is no different to other coaches. Justin Langer had a list of mentors and he swapped ideas with Lyon to better his own coaching.

Lyon himself lists Don Scott, along with Robert Walls, Jeff Gieschen, David Parkin and close friend Paul Roos as his mentors. Ross also used mentors from outside the AFL world with Olympic medal-winning rowing coach Tom Morris
