Ernie Merrick? WTF?

Post: # 1985317Post Sainternist »

I don’t remember him being at the club? Why the bloody hell did we hire a soccer coach, FFS!

Anyway, he is now getting his 2 cents worth on Ratten’s dismissal. This is such hypocrisy, given how ruthless soccer clubs are in sacking managers/coaches

Another article says he was employed as mentor from preseason until Rd21.
Sat with Cuddles
Day before match
Match day
After match day during review

'One of the best coaches I've ever worked with'
Further, he was interviewed in the review by Lethers and Bassat.
Lethers was fair and impartial and listened.
Bassat seemed to have the agenda (good cop, bad cop?)
Every negative point from Bassat about Cuddles, Ernie had a counterpoint.

Says the writing was on the wall.

Why does anyone care what comments are made about the sacking of Ratten?

You mustn't pay attention to off-field at all.
Merrick was mentioned by the AFL app, the saints app, on here, it's no secret.

And hypocrisy?
He's a coach, not an admin.
He said in EPL a manager gets the boot+20 mil

He understands pro sport

Of course he's salty and would go in to bat for him as Ratt's ultimate failure as our coach is an extension of Merrick's failure as his mentor.

Sorry, but the scourge of media speculation (and even misinformation) gets my goat. They are harping on as though Ratten’s tenure was successful at St.Kilda. There just seems to be a scant disregard of his coaching performance from the last 2 years. The proof is in the pudding that Ratten did precious little.

Not a soccer fan, can anyone enlighten me as to how many premierships/championships Merrick has compared to Lyon's tally?

Thanks in advance

They say it's a results-driven business that we're in … but it's really not performance-related, it's usually someone who makes a tough call without the expertise or knowledge behind them I would say.”

So pretty much saying the board don't have the expertise or knowledge on coaching matters ..... in another words the coach knows everything and should never be questioned even when results and performance are dropping off the face of the earth because he knows what he is doing

Really Ernie?

One year we’re getting Joe Blow from the Melbourne Storm and the next it’s the Elephant Man from a local soccer club. Why on earth are we hiring these know-it-alls from other codes?

Merrick has four. Two of each. Equivalent to two minor premierships and two premierships. Albeit the A-League had nearly half the number of clubs to compete with.

This was obviously a big failure. 8 losses in the back end of the season is testimony to that.

If he was any good he wouldn’t be coaching in Australia.

Perhaps his feedback to Rats was the reason we went downhill - I'm pretty sure is was him I heard being interviewed when he was about to start, from memory he said he would sit with Rats and provide feedback, but on the TV takes I didn't see him and wondered 'where is that guy (holding back expletive).

The biggest reason the club is not a contender is the selections made by Trout.
He is no longer with the club but he should be sacked anyhow.

Always seemed bizarre to me that a seven-year coach in his fifties would require a mentor.

But hey, that's the cuddly environment St Kilda cultivated fror years.

To be fair, he chose to emigrate to Australia for the weather and lifestyle. He didn't want to leave.

Wow this really is getting ugly. Now those with their minds already made up are having a crack at Ernie Merrick.
