'Signed'
Ratts signed a contract extension a while ago.
I think this 'signing' business might be overrated, just quietly

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
From BF
I wonder if Ross Lyon knows
That people are afraid
To meet him when for walks he goes
Beneath the grandstand shade;
And when they scream and run away,
O, does he laugh at their dismay?
And does he say with head tossed high:
"How 'terribly' fierce am I"?
I'd like to know
If this is so;
But if I met Ross Lyon some day
I would not ask, I'd run away,
For surely it would test one's brass
To meet Ross Lyon on Moorabbin's grass!

This is a good thing.
No matter what, we will be better.

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
"How is Ross presented Macbeth?
He acts as a messenger repeatedly, delivering the news of treachery, announcing a promotion, reporting that a family has been slaughtered, and finally telling of death in battle."
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Something ??? this way comes
?what is actually now foretold?

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
A brlliant appointment and he will be an even better coach this time around. It will take some time for the players to learn the structures Lyon will instill, but when they do watch us rocket up the ladder!
Exciting times Sainters!

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
He was our best option available and has a proven track record with our club. Love him or hate him, he is a shrewd operator and an innovative coach (exactly what we need). When former club legends who played under him rally to bring him back, the club would only be foolish to ignore them.
Initially, I thought it would be insane to try and bring him back, but in light of some recent revelations surfacing around his walking out on the club, it all seems like water under the bridge at this point.
Ross was given offers from Carlton a year ago and Essendon only a few weeks ago; and he knocked both back. Let that sink in for a while.

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
My views on Ross have also turned around.
I'd have been more than happy to have kept him in 2012. I was initially filthy at both the club and him for neither seemed to act in good faith.
I was then dirty on Lyon's lack of player development. But on reflection, we were right in the middle of contending for flags. Clearly the younger players didn't quite have the tank to play his game style yet. They certainly developed it later on with both Armo and Steven having really good running ability.
He certianly got the best out of players with limited ability.
His players also loved him as much as I've seen players love their coach...It's almost a Jeans like reverence.
I think his player development at Freo was certainly better as he didn't inherit a side that was contending for a flag. But he got them to that position very quickly.
We don't have the stars that we did in 2009/2010 but we have some quality players. King, Steele, Crouch, Wilkie, Howard, Sinclair, and Hill are quality.
I'm excited about what he can do with our list.

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
Interesting. Wonder if they want to put Lenny in as coach and Ross as overseer. If it is that sort of scenario, there needs to be a clear chain of command and understanding of who calls the shots, in which case it would be Ross.

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
He will definitely improve our performance over time. Might be we go backwards to go forwards as the players adjust to his structure.
A great appointment

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
Will he (improve our performance over time, year after year)?
How can you be so sure?
I mean, the evidence shows we could go forwards and then backwards, as the players adjust to his "structure" ... as was the case at St Kilda first time around and then Freo (where he ended up with a 30% W/L last 4 years and was happily shown the door)?
AR and BR had a 50% W/L with us being an average team ... and they both had bad luck with injuries. That wasn't good enough for us.
RL better set the world on fire ... the way he is being feted. This site will go into melt down, if he doesn't.

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
I guess I should welcome the news - things couldn't get much worse, but ponder the hype, after all in his most recent 4 years as a coach he didn't get Freo anywhere near the top 8 on the ladder and never got above 13th in that period. Not saying I felt comfortable with Brett Rattan but he has much better credentials on paper.

Re: Welcome Ross Lyon
I hope he lasts the full 4 years.
He will then surpass Rodney Eade as the coach with most games coached without a flag!
Must be some real good snake oil this time, for Saints Hierarchy to draft him without due process.
Freo paraded him in his purple tie and dirty smirk at his initial appointment press conference, I wonder if we will roll out red carpet and marching band?
We will be a complete laughing stock if it goes pear shaped again.

Well, one thing I'll enjoy is Ross not putting up with crap from the media. They're sh*t scared of him.
