I see Lyon as a regressive step and his game plan is obsolete. It won't get close to the Geelong's or Melbourne's style of play.

I guess we’ll follow the modern trend of running a “process”. I can see why clubs do it as it gives them an “out” when things go tits up, some sort of plausible deniability.
Would be refreshing if the club just picked someone and backed them in.
I agrree. If Lyon wants the job, give it to him. Spare us the charade.
f*** OFF, if they give it to Lyon after the way he f***ed the club over then they can go and get f***ed they’ll never get another cent out of me!
You then may very well end up contributing those cents to a swear jar rather than StK FC. I bet someone has already said yes to the job and Rossy would be on a very short list of possibilities.
Did Lyon f*ck over the club, or did the club f*ck up not re-signing Lyon?
He followed the mighty dollar as he was having some financial issues outside of footy, and Freo waved the big money. Shot through like greased lightning. I don't want him to come back.
What was the thinking in not extending his contract (like we seem so keen to do with coaches now!) well before it ran out, especially coming off 2 GF years? Sorry I can't quite remember how everything went down exactly.
Well, I suspect the f-up with Lyon is part of the reason why we have re-signed coaches too early ever since. Something else we can blame him for!
Clear from that presser that the review thinks this list can deliver more
IF that’s right then I can’t see them going a newbie coach
It’ll be experienced
Lyon must be in the frame
Bassatt is a fan too..
Interesting take from BF
Tel you what is exciting.
Ross was bullish on us all year. Including late when we were losing. Go back and watch the Footy Classified clips. He backed us a lot, even as underdogs and said he thought we weren’t as bad as the media made out
Wikipedia on Ross Lyon: "After failing to lead Fremantle into the AFL finals series in four consecutive seasons, Lyon was sacked as senior coach on 20 August 2019"
That doesn't bode well.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
The more I think of this, it makes sense to bring back Ross. Hated the way he left, but its a brutal industry.
Ratts I liked, but how many times did we have to 'speak with the players, and stamp out' bad performances etc. There was so many of them and the last half of the season was pretty average (apart from the Carlton game where they played amazing). If next year went bad, lets face it, no big fish will want to come to the club. Its been more than 10 years of mediocre, let's face it.
However, Ross will need to change a bit and put in time to develop players and not just rely on a fixed 22 players, I do hope he has learnt this over time, as most teams need to keep players coming through to keep the standards high. Hopefully Lenny can sort that part out, and we might end up with a good balance, where he can be handed the top job after x amount of years?
I feel like Ross started a journey, but never got to finish it.
I'd also be happy with GT as well tbh, I just like the way he speaks, just calls it what it is, and actually bleeds for the jersey. I enjoyed the way we played and we weren't a joke back then.

Interesting for the GT lovers on his list of preferred coaches is Ross Lyon
Agree Lyon needs to change - think he’s already spoken about having quality senior assistants come in to support offensive efforts (think he acknowledges not a strong suit)
He won’t have to do everything like last time at Saints - he can’t and won’t be allowed to Geoff Walsh is equally as big a or!ck as Ross …

Looks pretty clear up until recently, that Bassat has looked on from a distance as president, and let the club function, but it has got to a point where his business instincts are now driving him for success and he has rolled his sleeves up for some hard work. I think for the first time in years, there seems to be a definite show of strength from the top, and the choice for a new coach is succeed or you're out. Better than the wishy washy administrations of years gone by.
Walsh has handled some very strong coaches over his time - Pagan, Parkin, Malthouse & Buckley. I have no doubt he would be able to manage and support Lyon as required. As mentioned above Lyon would want an offensive specialist coach, which may lead to the club following Geelong's lead and going away from specific line coaches and go back to team offensive/defensive specifics.
Lyon has had a few years off to re-generate, self assess and notably work on his short comings. With his strengths and back ground I believe he is far and away the best canditate to take us forward. He does create an environment where the players are challenged on all levels, but that is exactly what our list needs IMO.
We hope that Lyon has listened to concerns over time about his ability to develop an entire list and not ostracise unfavoured players. Walsh, Rath, Gallagher, Carrol and the match committee will earn their keep, but I am confident the club now has the pillars in place to get the absolute best out of a talented coach and the list.
look we all saw st kilda play without anything approaching a finals worthy gameplan, or finals worthy motivation and belief on the field. yet we weren't far off finals. two years running. could well be the admin think with a good coach that can instill some belief and hopefully a bit of fight in the players, on top of a reasonable game plan that fits the group, then we're going to see a fair bit of improvement.
so now they just need the right coach.
and that is obviously...

Let's also remember that we are probably keen on naming a new coach instead of later in case the Clarkson thing goes south and Brisbane plus North are looking for replacements.
I am not keen on Ross for the reasons I have said.
We need someone who will install a brand of football that not only wins, but that excites supporters and the football world.
That brings bigger crowds, better sponsors, more revenue and attracts A grade players to want to come and play for us.

Oh be quiet “Trev from the Bush”, careful you’ll wake TTT up and he’ll start pontificating on the weaknesses of JL as a coach of the Australian Cricket team & of all the South Australians who would have done a better job at the time Langer was in charge.

He'd be ideal for the job. Used to being white-anted, crucified, stabbed in the back and burnt at the stake for the apparent crime of nurturing success but not enough consistency. Perfect suspect for the next board to do over.
