Re: Ross Lyon?
I remember what people said about Ross Lyon when he departed the Saints to go to Freo.
To say it was not complimentary, and rightly so, would be an understatement.
What I find slightly hypocritical and a little bemusing, is the very people who had the worst things to say about Ross Lyon, then, are now hailing him as the great hope of the St Kilda football club.
This guy proved to everyone back in the day that he was not a fit and proper person to coach this footy club and that has everything to do with the manner and circumstance of his departure.
What has changed apart from the desperation of some to get a guy who got us into a couple of Grand Finals?
Mind you, he didn't win us a premiership and therein lies the great flaw that is Ross Lyon.
An exceptional track record of coming second and when the going gets tough, he bails.

Re: Ross Lyon?
If he willing to take on the challenge, I’d say absolutely. He’s a task-master, results driven, demands respect from the playing group and on face value, seems like an arsehole,
He’s exactly what this club needs!
However, would he be interested? I’d be surprised if he would be. This list is on the declining and on the verge of a third rebuild. Whereas Ross doesn’t do rebuilds.

No to Ross Lyon ..... couldnt get it done with us or with Freo and both times he took on a playing list primed to win
He has proven he can't develop youngsters and made it obviously clear he wants to coach a list that is fully developed
Its the easy lazy path for a dude with planet sized ego

It’s a no for me.
I went back to the ex once and whilst it was a good night, it caused more pain and troubles in the long run.

Re: Ross Lyon?
The vibe certainly seems to be that Lyon is coming back.
Unlike many of the other names being tossed around - Yze, Hird, Leppitch, Pyke, etc. - Lyon is a proven quality head AFL coach. Although I would prefer it to be someone else, I think that, assuming some due diligence as to how he's traveling both inside and outside the football world, I think he is a credible choice and I would enthusiastically support him if he comes.
For once, I am in full agreement with Teflon: I would be expecting Lyon to have moved on from his complex, space-crowding game plans of the late 2000s to something a little more attacking and fluid. Indeed, he was already heading that way at Freo.
Anyway, if it is Lyon, it's sure going to be an interesting 2023!

Are they the same people?
If some people always rated him and some people always hated him, that’s just people having different opinions.

Re: Ross Lyon?
Lyon had:
Roo
Lenny
Goddard
Montagna
Gram
Milne
Can't compare our list
Sincs
Steele
Wilkie
Windy (still young)
Owens (young)
I don't count King because he sulks too much and is unreliable
There's a massive gap to the rest, none of whom would get a game with Swans or Cats.

Re: Ross Lyon?
Tom Browne has tweeted that sources are saying Lyon has been approached . Conspicously he also says that Lyon is not commenting. Sounds like we're negotiating terms with Lyon. If so, I'm excited.

Re: Ross Lyon?
I think the majority of Saints fans loved Lyon when we were flying high in 2009-10 and then, with some cause, turned against him at the end of 2011. Some remain bitter now, others have mellowed.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Fri 14 Oct 2022 7:38pmAre they the same people?

I thought the same. 2 year contract with Lenny as assistant.

Re: Ross Lyon?
I was bitter in 2011. Then I watched eleven years of brain-numbing mediocrity.
Pre-game cuddles and meditating on the field ffs.
Lyon may have been absolutely ruthless in jumping ship in 2011.
But the club has been absolutely ruthless disposing of Ratten, Watters and sundry players. And they weren't ruthless enough with Richo.

Re: Ross Lyon?
Bevo for me. Would be stoked if we snagged him back
I neither love nor hate Ross. I rate him and I’ve no doubt we’d improve under him, but I just don’t know about bringing him back and I’m not convinced his approach gets it done at the big dance

Re: Ross Lyon?
We need a coach with a hard edge. Someone who can come in and lift standards from the get go. No more BS, no more back slapping, or gifting games to blokes that don’t deserve it.
Sounds like Ross Lyon to me.

Re: Ross Lyon?
Lyon jumped ship as soon as he thought he had a better option . I thought we still had a list that could go the distance but he obviously new a lot more than I did & in the blink of an eye Lyon was gone & we turned to sh-t & Freo started to thrive & in a few years he had Freo in the big dance but still couldn't get them a flag either . I think his game plan is only sustainable for a few years it's very taxing & players just get tired of the constant defensive style & so do the fans but if it gets you a flag in the word's of our resident poet asiu who gives a fuchia flavoured freckle if he get the job done . A lot of water to flow under the bridge & he is not my preferred option but if he got us a flag I would forgive him for his past indiscretions

Re: Ross Lyon?
He also got both teams to a GF. Many good teams don't even get that far.spert wrote: ↑Fri 14 Oct 2022 4:05pmSaints premiership=0, Freo premiership=0 no thanksWaltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Fri 14 Oct 2022 3:59pm St Kilda's only GF coach this century. Fremantle's only GF coach ever.
Amazing that he's not coaching while the likes of Brad Scott are.
A no-brainer.
Those who are still bitter, get over it. I did.
I for one hate losing. We have lost most of my life. Ross was the only coach that we have had that I felt we would win any game we played. Winning ugly was always better than just loosing.
If we don't get Ross then get Choco.
