The AFL introduced a mandate a couple of years ago that the maximum payout to a coach if they were sacked was to be 6 months, irrelevant of the length of time left on their contract.

Yep
Like Ratts really nice guy obviously but not a head coach
I suspect Rob Harvey has same affliction
We need structure and someone who can bring it

I do feel for Ratten cause he’s a good person but just not a senior coach
Time for a little tough love in this place and standards
I suppose Vortex still running round saying “no issues with the coach..”

It was a good call.

Someone also posted this on BF a bit earlier tonight in the rumour thread over there.

Was that really because he was too soft on the players? I’m a bit sceptical. But if you appoint reviewers you’ve got to pay some attention to their findings.
The players were frustrated that Ratten wasn’t joining in when they were doing laps. He definitely needed to lose weight.

They weren’t motivated by someone who would take time to join them for lunch, but couldn’t be bothered joining them in the gym

Also…when Lethlean asked the players if the reason the team wasn’t going well was because of the resources at the club or the playing list or perhaps the coaching side of things…ALL players told Simon it was the coaching

I thought Ratten was an ok tactical coach - underrated by many on here - but the second half of the season suggested that he was struggling to get the team up for games.

Was that really because he was too soft on the players? I’m a bit sceptical. But if you appoint reviewers you’ve got to pay some attention to their findings.

No offence Teffers but whilst I have no doubt that you’re not celebrating Ratten’s poor fortune… I think if this forum was to guess as to which forumite approved of this decision the most… 95% of the votes would have ticked over to you.

Out of interest… any thoughts on who’ll get the nod as head coach. Personally I have a sneaky suspicion that Mr. Lyon may get the tap on the shoulder

100% agree.

Call it a feeling that the club will want to make a big, bold statement.
Get a hardass coach with finals experience to fix up this soft list. Make us relevant again whilst the eyes of the football public focus on us.

For the record… you may or may not recall that I was one of Lyon’s earliest detractors and I stand by that

When do St Kilda bring in Paul Ross and Robert Walls to be part of the selection committee to choose the new coach?

Don't get the Lyon-knocking.

CLEARLY the best, hardest coach still available.

Still has the hunger.

OK the circusmtances of his departure weren't ideal but just proves he's a see-you-next-Tuesday. Which is what we need.

Would be endorsed by Roo, Joey, Dal and most importantly Lenny.

I don't want Lyon back, he's been out of the game for too long.
Adam Yze, maybe it's time he gets his chance.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.
