Draft Night
I get the feeling we are sitting back a little waiting for draft night to get active.
We have 2 2nd round picks and if there was a player we wanted who looked like going in the space of 5-9 I could see us trade sat first round picks and add in our second or GC second to move up and grab who they want.
We need top end talent and this way we could at least move up. No need to do it now as if for example the player goes earlier than suspected no need to trade and keep the 2nd rounder.
Just a thought

Re: Draft Night
So the Premier’s first pick is now before ours. Ridiculous.

Outrageous. Unfortunately there won't be any accountability to dodgy land deals or Cotton On franchises offered to partners and families.
They have it sewn up.

Re: Draft Night
The premiers are a destination club and a bit smarter than us which explains their earlier pick. I’ll be more pissed off if or when they get an easier fixture than us for 2023.

Where has this cotton franchise theory come from? Pretty sure the company is privately owned and doesn’t franchise!Banger9798 wrote: ↑Wed 12 Oct 2022 2:16pmThey will have aded 4 FRDPs at the end of the season

Re: Draft Night
Yeah, we’re really attacking the draft
We have pick 10
Pick 28
Pick 32
With that sort of arsenal
We should be contending in 3 years

Re: Draft Night
Maybe because the company started in Geelong? If I recollect correctly, I read many moons ago in the 1990’s (I think) a lad from Geelong started the venture selling from a market in Geelong. His family & friends backed him with finances. Just because the company has expanded around the globe doesn’t necessarily mean it’s been franchised. Like you amusingname, I thought it was still a privately owned company. Nevertheless, this is Saintsational, once someone says something it often becomes gospel!!!amusingname wrote: ↑Wed 12 Oct 2022 2:49pmWhere has this cotton franchise theory come from? Re: Draft Night
They definitely are a Geelong based company and a sponsor of the cats. I am sure all clubs do whatever they can with ‘friendly’ companies and perks for players and families. Pretty sure there was a crackdown after Judd and Visy and clubs can’t be as blatant.loris wrote: ↑Wed 12 Oct 2022 3:52pmMaybe because the company started in Geelong? Re: Draft Night
Thanks for the update.
We could have got in another KPF that gags was saying we wonted I herd we were talking with FA for a while but we couldn't get one what did they do wrong.
I don't wont to here we are not a destination club or irrelevant if the bottom club can attract players and Essendon who are a rabble can get players why can we I would say our prospects look better then there's in 23.
But that will change now I think we might slide and both of those clubs will go past us as they are rejuvenating the lists unlike us.

Re: Draft Night
Personally I hope that we can move up and select Jhye Clark. This kid will be a superstar.

Re: Draft Night
Trading attacked. Now our draft hand attacked. Anything else ?
WE have better picks that last year. Care to attack our draft haul from last year?

Re: Draft Night
We got lucky last year with academy picks. Not sure we can replicate that success given that we have to exercise more judgment this time around.

How good is that we can take Cameron Mackenzie for a handful of late picks.

Re: Draft Night
Remember NGA this draft is now top 40 not top 20 like last year.
Typical AFL knee jerk to Ugal Hager . 30 seems about right place for this to fall - equivalent of mid second round and by then everyone has had a chance to select these players

Pick 40 is wrong and the AFL should admit it.older saint wrote: ↑Thu 13 Oct 2022 9:41am Remember NGA this draft is now top 40 not top 20 like last year.

It should start at the beginning of the third round whatever number that might be.
Means every club has one more chance after the first round is complete.
