I reckon they got a bit of a bargain.
Why couldn't he get fit at St Kilda?
we are going to regret this...im pissed off
The only way we could have kept him was to offer him over $600K. How do you justify that?
You can't. He's only worth half that. A lot of delusional people on here.
Absolutely! I reckon the club would have offered him about $400K. Good on him for getting GCS’ Mickey Mouse offer, though. Can only wish him well.

Not worthless at all,

But would be good to bundle up with a future second for another first rounder?
30 years of data would suggest there is no correlation with picks after 24 in the draft and delayed success. That is to say the historic value of picks 25-58 are discernible.
In other words, pick 32 is historically close to worthless
Short memories around here.

Mitch Owens - Pick 33
Marcus Windhager - Pick 47
All these posts are in essence proving my point. The draft is more or less lucky dip after pick 25. I understand the perceived value in 32; but as you have all pointed out there is negligible difference in the likelihood we draft a superstar with 32 or any other pick afterwards.
Whereas there is positive correlation between delayed success and picks inside the top25.

So GCS are salary dumping with Bowes, and they offer $600k for Long? No way was he offered anywhere near that. As others have said half that would be closer.

So 584 - 69 = 515 points that's between pick 35 and 36.
PIck 69 could end up as a throw away so I like moving up the draft order a few places to 32.
But with father-son picks in play it is hard to say where this pick will finish but at least we don't have academy queue jumping disrupting the order until after pick 40.
Saints pick 9 will be pick 10 when Brisbane claims Ashcroft from saints backyard Sandringham.

Ben long gone.
That's about right ace, confirmed on Draftguru that St Kilda was paid well above the market rate for Ben Long, yet another smart deal by Gallagher:

https://www.draftguru.com.au/trades/2022-ben-long

I liked Long but he never ever strung together a number of consistent games of above average quality, in fact played by far his best game ever in Round 23, which is not good enough, remains to be seen if he can elevate his performance for the Suns.

Conversely there's every chance the club will pick up a quality youngster at pick 32 that could improve the list.
If you don't like what the guru tells you, find another guru.

http://www.hpnfooty.com/?p=33472
Verdict: Fairly even trade with the late future pick balancing out the second rounder.

No, pretty sure Ben Long is now getting $600K from GCS, which is why he left.

Unless they've frontloaded his 350-400pa actual wage, which might explain the Bowes salary dump?

Don’t quote me on this, but from memory, I think I heard it coming from Jake at Saints TV whom is a fairly reliable source. Regardless, GCS offered significantly more than his value and what we put in front of him. I’m afraid money wins again :(

Which ever way you spin it

It’s a fk up when you turn a higher pick with 6 years development into a lower pick

Same with

Tom Lynch and Jamie Cripps

Either the WRONG player was initially selected
Or
Screwed up development
Or
Screwed in the trade deal

Buy high and Sell low at StK, great method

Doubt Narkle would be a good pick up Saint Bob, in any case I think he is a delisted free agent and would not cost a draft pick

to my thinking as soon as a player makes noises about wanting to move
shop him
In these situations it comes own to a handful of issues
wants more opportunities
wants more money
not happy about the way hes being utlised
deeper disjoint with club or other players
just wants change or to go "home"

Whatever the reason
only one of those situations will be fixed with a bump in contract
Thanks Ben - so long (pun intended)

B grade players don't demand A grade draft picks in return. Pretty simple. People talk of Ben Long as is he's been a consistent high performer. He just hasn't been. Hence pick 32, which is a fair trade

I even think we won.
Some here talk like he was Andrew McLeod because he was hard at the ball and many live for the thuggish football of the 80s Where often due to lack of talent it was what Stkilda often dished up. The old Make em earn it slogan. Long best was good we just didn't see it enough and he had plenty of chances so cant blame Richo and Ratten.
My non Stkilda mates all reckon GC paid about 10 picks over
