You should be apologising to our recruiters for slagging them off based on hearsay generated by the desperate AFL media.

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
Apart from Howard (traded for), Coffield (who we hoped to turn into a mid) and Hugh Goddard (gone) all of our defensive choices have been drafted after pick 35
Wilkie and Sinclair both rookies - and Sinclair wasn't a defender to begin with
Battle was a forward when drafted at 39
Clavarino pick 35 gone
Webster and Paton in the 40s
Oscar Adams pick 51
Darragh Joyce - Category B Rookie
Lienert - delisted pick up
Roberton - traded for cheaply
Highmore - rookie
Geary - rookie
Our defensive unit has been an afterthought - trying to find bargain basements and patch together a decent backline
And now here we go again with Cordy
PS - forgot Carlisle ..... wasn't cheap but was average for the most

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
Probably safe to say that Cordy would be an upgrade on Joyce but it is still a patch job

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
Might not be a star but we are talking about a player who has played in 2 grand finals and has won one.
Not exactly a spud, fills a hole in our list and is 25 years old.
Personally I hope we pick him up as all it is going to cost us is salary cap space.

4 cm taller than Wilkie - 4 cm shorter than Howard
We cried blue murder when we did not have Howard to stop the taller players - who do you suggest we pick up for no draft picks?

I think we need to revive that old saying our grand parents and great grandparents used to use a lot in these situations: "beggars can't be choosers".Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Wed 05 Oct 2022 7:25am 4 cm taller than Wilkie - 4 cm shorter than Howard

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
Cordy has a premiership under his belt as does Butler and Hill, so not too bad a pickup. Our back line is not our biggest issue however- the problem is forward of centre, and we need more strength down there.

Depends what he costs but he sounds like a great fit for the zebras, us not so much

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
At least it cost us nothing in picks. We can probably front end his contract with the DeGoey money unless we end up getting someone else in.

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
The Bulldogs must still rate him because he has a 2 year contract in front of him.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
I wonder if the club are considering him for our 2nd tall forward in the event we can't find another tall this trade period....or alternatively does it allow Battle to become the 2nd tall in the forward line.

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
It’s hard because Battle’s beat footy has been down back but the collective group of Howard, Battle and Wilkie is somewhat undersized IMO though they’ve done well.
Battle forward, Cordy back seems to be the most appropriate solution to a few problems but yet I feel some trepidation with the suggestion.
At the very least getting Cordy adds some balance to our list structure IMO. Certainly a better fit than Joyce in terms of balance and pbly talent

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
Totally agree re adding balance to our structure which seems to be one of the weaknesses within our biggest weakness which is overall depth of talent. Zaine comes in at 195cm and has played forward previously so it's a tick for possibly increasing options at the game planning and selection table.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 05 Oct 2022 10:42amIt’s hard because Battle’s beat footy has been down back but the collective group of Howard, Battle and Wilkie is somewhat undersized IMO though they’ve done well.

Talent significantly greater than Joyce....significantly.
A tick also for having a name that starts with Z, scores very heavily in Scrabble...if names are allowed.

Re: Zaine Cordy? Really?
C grade AFL player at very best.
Not going to improve our side but should provide a reliable albeit average KPP option at both ends as required.
Given Bulldogs have given a 3 year deal to 32YO (next season) Liam Jones I guess Zaine saw limited opportunities.
Key backs have been WB Achilles heel for some time.
Not against the move as it cost nothing in draft picks and at his age is not another Chip Frawley waste of resources.

C Grade? 6 foot 5, 118 senior games, turns 26 later this month, cost us nothing in the way of a trade and has been a Bulldogs regular since playing in their 2016 premiership.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Wed 05 Oct 2022 11:30am C grade AFL player at very best.

Of our taller defenders I'd rate them as follows:
A grade: Wilkie
B grade: Howard
C grade: Battle (still developing)
D grade: Highmore, Joyce (goneski), Sharman (developing)
Adams (no idea)
How do you rate our taller defenders?
