The Ben Long Deal
Gold Coast have picks 7,25,32,35, 44, 53,68, 71
What I'd like to see is Long & 46 for 25 & 32, but I'm guessing the best we can do will be Long & 46 for 32 & 35.
That would give us 9, 28, 32, 35 instead of 9,28, 46
We've lost Geary, Hannebery, Joyce, Long, Kent & Ryder so we need 6 picks in the draft to cover those losses. Whatever we do in the Long trade it has to increase the number of picks we have.

Re: The Ben Long Deal
Unless we can somehow swing the Bowes deal I cant see us getting more than 35 for Long. Out of contract so they hold the cards.

Re: The Ben Long Deal
Long & #9 for #7 & #35?
Is #9 instead of #7 going to kill the Bowes trade?
2 places could be the difference in securing McKenzie or not if he is our target.

Would have preferred to lose Jones or Butler. Not like for like but the number of times Ben was in the 2s or sub while those other two contributed sfa must have grated. The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 03 Oct 2022 7:27pm Losing long is a big mistake and a step backwards for the club

Funny… I have the same concern with a few other players.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Mon 03 Oct 2022 7:33pmWould have preferred to lose Jones or Butler. Bytel for example has been mooted as not being adequately fit to play…
But Hannebery came straight in, then couldn’t play out his first game (2 quartets) nor his second (3 quarters).
Clark clearly couldn’t run out more than 2 quarters
Jones was clearly horribly un match fit bit got a bunch of goes.
Connolly and Bytel didn’t deserve games… Long horribly inconsistent and doesn’t deserve more than he got…
Butler got limitless opportunities, Kent played 2 games he didn’t deserve, Clark played 1 1/2 game im the reserves and was rushed in, Billings got brought back early, Jones didn’t never remotely got close to his peak…
I don’t know what the culture we’re building is… but it is not one where form and hard work are rewarded. It still feels to me that there some way of thinking that goes minds get made up and once you’re in you’re in.
Don’t know why a player like Bytel would give it everything he has…
Why would he bother when others will just walk in

Not the entire story - but some of those that 'walked straight in' bought a point of difference - Bytel is unfortunately 'More of Same'.skeptic wrote: ↑Mon 03 Oct 2022 7:54pmFunny… I have the same concern with a few other players.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Mon 03 Oct 2022 7:33pmWould have preferred to lose Jones or Butler. Kent - well paint me yellow and call me a banana if I can explain that but Hanners, Clark and Jones all had/have a point of difference

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I understand you're not on your Pat Malone. I know people like to look at meaningless stats instead of really paying attention to the value a player provides
I'd rather a guy has 10 touches, busts his arse and does the 1%ers and gets his knees dirty rather than getting 20 disposals where half of them are direct turnovers.
If our coaches don't recognise the strengths of a player and if the leadership group of players don't embrace every player as they develop and grow and mature, then this is what happens
The link below is a discussion where the views are divided (after the Cats game this year). All I know is that he is a player who is critical if we want to beat the top sides. He played his part when we beat Geelong this year

Pride, grit and perseverance.
Hopefully he’s not a sook blaming others for him not getting a game.
I agree others appear to get games regardless of fitness, performance etc.
Just get in and focus on what you can control.
I don’t think he’ll make it, but I’d love to see him do so.

Maybe Scollop will leave for the Gold Coast too.

If GC want to pay him 600k then they can give up pick 25. I don't think he's worth either.

Re: The Ben Long Deal
Ben Long is an average footballer.
However his mongrel is worth ever cent. The ability to make others second guess, pause or hesitate is understated in todays game. Strong around the ball.
It makes him a far better player (or team inclusion) than his stats suggest.
