Perhaps I'm a sick puppy, but I was hoping they'd appoint Hird. Not because I think he'd be any good, rather so I could belly-laugh at their stupidity.

I like how you think
Maybe the Bombers were conscious of the fallout if he failed...

You think the new manager won't do crazy stuff then?

Did he throw Lenny into the fence or was it the outstanding human Chris?

Well you hope.
Especially with Gill going too.
A less interventionist approach perhaps and a credible MRO/tribunal process.

Re: Essendon New Coach
Sheedy ad Dodoro have just met their match. They were able to undermine the previous coach, but Brad Scott will rip them to shreds. They tried hard to manipulate the situation to get James T Hird back in the club, but thankfully it failed. I hope Scott's tenure will finally see the end of Dodoro and Sheedy for good. They are a poison on the football club

For that reason alone, they should stay at the Bombers.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Fri 30 Sep 2022 6:55am Sheedy ad Dodoro have just met their match. Re: Essendon New Coach
From North to Essendon via AFL House. Not bad for a dud coach. At least he leads though.

Re: Essendon New Coach
The Scotts are masters of self promotion. Competent certainly, smug? possibly. Not bad at feigning humility for the occasional humble brag.
Good luck to them. Media love it.
Re: Essendon New Coach
I found it strange that Brad Scott when asked by the media what game plan and style of football do you hope to play ,his response was I quote " I have to get to know the the players strenghts and weakness's first " . Wouldn't you think this guy would have given a better response then that ! At least Lyon , Longmire and even Hardwick have an identity on the type of footy brand they want there teams to play. Doesn't matter wether you like them or hate them!

As much as I think the Tird is a drug cheating f-ck it would have be gratifying to see him fail again & get sacked for the second time .

Re: Essendon New Coach
I’m not a Hird fan (who is?) but to would have preferred him to an AFL goon.
In fact I think he was kinda treated like the cyclist dude (Armstrong?) over the scandal and the AFL want to see ‘clean’ men now.
Nothing against Scott, I think he did a pretty good job at North.
Not a fan of either but particularly don’t like Hird. But the bigger picture, of just letting clubs be clubs, rather than McDonalds AFL franchises.
Hird/Sheedy represent the passion and I like that. Scott represents the risk-adverse pragmatism. Anyones guess what will happen, but wouldn’t you be less than surprised if Essendon turn out as an honest but mediocre team for the forseeable?

Re: Essendon New Coach
Scott has apparently had a pretty good win/loss ratio, but that's maybe down to the players he had at the time.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Mon 03 Oct 2022 10:46am I’m not a Hird fan (who is?) but to would have preferred him to an AFL goon.

Personally, I don't see him pulling off a Fly move (Pies from cellar dwellers to finals) anytime soon.
Ess got rid of Rutten very quickly.
Scott should be worried about his long-term chances

Re: Essendon New Coach
New CEO is a bit controversial as well
https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ ... 822652?amp
New Essendon chief executive Andrew Thorburn is chairman of a church organisation which likens abortion to the operation of concentration camps and declares that homosexual behaviour is wrong.
Thorburn, 57, was appointed to the top Bombers role on Monday in a move which president David Barham described as “bold and decisive”.
It can be revealed that former NAB chief Thorburn is also listed as chairman of an eight-church movement called City on a Hill.
On the church’s website it says Thorburn became a Christian in 2002 and has attended since 2014.

Re: Essendon New Coach
At least he has lasted longer than the new CEO, who quit after 1 day. Hilarious.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
