Re: Bowes
It not about recruiting Bowes.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sun 25 Sep 2022 2:39pm In response to the question though, I'd say we are in a good position to do the deal.
But also think we should check out Bowes carefully and not just be seduced by an easy way to snag pick7. You would want to make sure he is committed to getting the best out of himself and can actually be a top 22 player.
It is about paying Gold Coast the $1 million they would have to pay Bowes to play seconds over the next 2 years.
Then he can be delisted after 2 years.
They are selling pick 7 for $500,000 million per year in salary cap space.
They will breach the salary cap if they don't off load contracted overpaid list cloggers.

Maybe its not that we can't afford him moreso Bowes just doesn't want to come to the Saints ..... he wants to go to Geelong and that's it ...... nothing we can do as its Geelong or Gold Coast and he can't be forced to choose us

Re: Bowes
Zero hanger now reporting strongly linked with Geelong.

If we've cooled on it coz of DeGoey this just sums us up. All our eggs in the risky high priced basket whilst a solid club like Geelong invest in a 24 year old top ten pick who comes packaged with pick 7 as a bonus.

Re: Bowes
Has to come down to how much space in the cap we have.
Would hate to lose a Hunter Clark over this.
The money needs to come from somewhere.
It is not as if we are already over paying for ordinary players... Jones..

Re: Bowes
Recruited in 2016 to the Gold Coast, 6 years in an elite environment and still a fringe list clogger. I'd be very surprised if we don't go hard for him. He could make a great duo with Bytel at Sandy.
The question is, is pick 7 worth $1million plus a player clogging our list for 2 years plus the operational costs?
$1 million plus salary for pick 7, Hunter was pick 7 and he hasn't been worth that coin but this is the age where money is cheap and credit is even cheaper. I say bugger it and take pick 7 and let Jack toil away at Sandy until his contract expires.
I'm done with stressing about spending other people's money, who cares about debt, it's what makes the world go around these days.

Re: Bowes
After all the posts about wasted money and paying too much for hannebury and hill, people now want to pay $850k to Jack Bowes for the next two years because it comes with pick 7, who we then also have to pay? From what I remember about seeing bowes in the past few years, he is an ok player, nothing extraordinary. If he wants midfield time, I haven’t seen that he would be any better than the current midfielders we have.

Re: Bowes
Why would Bowes agree to stretch out the contract? He agreed to the terms that back ended the contract when Gold Coast resigned him, if they now have screwed up why should he lose out? If he is the player some think he is, surely he would back himself and say to whoever is interested ‘pay me my contract as it was agreed to and I will show you what I am worth, then negotiate in the final year’.

What Roo thinks :
https://www.zerohanger.com/nick-riewold ... ws-128114/
Like he says, if indeed money is the reason we have pulled out, were willing to pay way overs for Hill, Hannebery and stump up 1 mil for De Goey, but two young players - nup. Sums us up.

Re: Bowes
Not a gun mid
Not a forward
Not a KPP
Not wanted by struggling Suns (but Ben is).
Unattractive financial baggage
Seems he needs to make Suns honour their agreement.
Easy thanks but no thanks?

Re: Bowes
It’s not one player you get!
Bowes is NOT worth 550k
But Bowes and pick 7 for 700k definitely is
It is a massive no brainer imo and so obvious it’s hilarious
But there are ZERO brains at Moorabbin
StK is a basket case

Re: Bowes
Wow there are some short sighted views on this thread
Bowes is not a bad player (certainly no list clogger as some have said), between 2018 and 2021 played 67/88 possible games)
what staggers me is all those who say they don’t watch other teams, then suddenly have an opinion on a player they don’t know
But what really gets me is passing on an opportunity for pick 7
That is gold. It would give us 7 and 9 (as it stands) more likely 8 and 10, with Ashcroft going 1
Picks are power (both for potential or the points)
Right now the club needs to chance its arm to go forward, we need leverage at the trade table, this helps give us that

Re: Bowes
What if it’s $825- $850k a year for Bowes as Jon Ralph is reporting, then it’s $1 million a year for him and pick 7. So paying $1 million a year for 2 players, one of which you don’t really want is smart?
Ask north how they felt about paying Jared Polec $700k to run around in the Vfl, if at all!

Re: Bowes
I watched Jack play for Cairns Saints, and the team I spend the second most of time watching is the GCS due to work related connections as well as a close connection with the GCS due to said work connections.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Tue 27 Sep 2022 12:21pm Wow there are some short sighted views on this thread

No disrespect to Jack, he's been fringe in a really poor team.
Roo needs to get out of the Melbourne fox studio more often.

Re: Bowes
Fringe player in a bad team?
So, like Long?
I don’t care about Bowes (who has a 1M contract for two seasons)
I care about the FRDP to make up for Clark - who ironically was pick 7
I’d actually offer Bowes 4 years and spread his money
1.6 over 4

Re: Bowes
Yeah but it's only two years and we would have picks 7 & 9. No brainer. But we're going instead for $1mil p.a for five years for a nearly 27 y.o hybrid mid/forward with significant risk.amusingname wrote: ↑Tue 27 Sep 2022 12:29pmWhat if it’s $825- $850k a year for Bowes as Jon Ralph is reporting, then it’s $1 million a year for him and pick 7. We need midfielders. Elite midfielders. If we can't trade for ready made, then smart trade and develop them.
We're like someone in an abusive relationship who can't leave. Stuck in mediocrity and throwing the kitchen sink at expensive, high risk saviours.
Hannebery, Hill......I really hope we don't get DeGoey.
