Question is, how can North secure all these players, they have very little to trade.
North seems to have used a scatter gun approach.
Got several players ready to nominate them which means they must have made a few commitments that they may not be able to keep.

Good way to destroy credibility in the market place.

Interesting trade period coming up for the Roos.

It may be that Hunter remains at the club but gets a strong message that he is tradeable if he doesn't fire next year. Could be a good result.

A 2023 second round pick????????????
Setting ourselves up for a few more years of mediocrity.
Disagree

Next year's drat is set to be a cracker.

North's 2nd should come in 20-25.

I've looked at some Clark tapes.... he's worth a 2023 high 2nd round and no more.

In no sane world would I see a pick in the 20s as good value for Clark

It is the 2023 draft so absolute best case the player selected plays in 2024.
Most likely takes player a couple of years to develop.
So next year we go backwards and hopefully see benefit in 3 or 4 years.

So as I said - a few more years of mediocrity.

Giving away our good players is the quickest way to mediocrity!

We give up Hunter Clark for a future second

That’ll do me…. I’ll just wait for TAS to come in

Please not a 2nd rounder.

Here’s the last ten years second round picks.

Matthew Allison
Oscar Clavarino
Ben Long
Brandon White
Hugh Goddard
Daniel McKenzie
Luke Dunstan
Blake Acres
Nathan Wright
Spencer White
Brodie Murdoch

Unless I’ve missed a couple that’s a pretty average bunch of 2nd round selections. Lucky perhaps we traded off our second rounders and didn’t have one in 19/20 from memory.

Need to go back to Seb Ross to get a really good player we’ve selected in the 2nd round.

Hopefully last years selections Mitch & Windy buck the trend.

Windhager a third rounder

If we turn a fifth year first rounder into a future second rounder

We really are a rabble

Your right on DMac but as DBC has pointed out if we give up Clark for a second rounder we are seriously inept IMO

Agree, but that’s 1 out of 11 second round selections.

Long, Acres, Dunstan, D Max are serviceable AFL players.

The rest (including Allison IMO) proved for whatever reason not to be AFL standard.

That’s very poor 2nd round recruiting.

Perhaps we should trade Clark for rookie selections, they seem to be our best recruiting options.

It's not the 2nd round that been the biggest problem.

You guys are missing the long game here.

We take that second round pick and draft a bloke with a lot of potential who we then half develop over a number of years to then trade away for a fourth rounder.

It’s genius.

Funny
Three years ago ‘Richo’ was a moron for offering DMac 3 years

Even though AR probably never made that decision

And

As it turns out, it wasn’t the worst decision

Btw
DMac is no star, just a GOP

But when we turn a rookie like Sinclair or Marshall into a gun that's conveniently forgotten about and we are still a rabble

I'm still flabbergasted that this is on the table. It's bewildering at best. I don't feel good about it at all. If the club goes ahead with it and gets a second round pick in return, to me that will constitute an utter failure.

I haven't felt this pessimistic during the off season for a long time

Yes, you place a lot of hope in the promise of players such as Clark and dream of them becoming elite players of the competition.

It seems the club has given up on that idea after a string of horrible injuries. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite us. Second round pick is not enough for a highly-rated and talented No.7 draft pick.

I’m also pessimistic this off season, but on the bright side, we beat Geelong and pushed the Swans pretty hard in round 23 at home. So our best is quite good. Unfortunately our worst is very bad (Essendon, Swans at SCG etc).

Who said it’s on the table?

It’s pure speculation.

They might trade HC as part of a multi party deal to get a player they really want, but apart from that, I can’t see them trading him cheaply as it would be a pointless move.

Particularly if the Clarkson saga drags on longer than the trade period, which it most likely will. If that happens North will have trouble getting any of the nominees to the club - they have been thrown under a bus. Hawthorn did the same to them years ago with the Jonathon Hay trade, Clarkson wasnt a trade but you think someone could have let North know this was coming.

It’s only frustrating for the supporters who care. There’s no need to make any firm public announcements until the official trading period begins.
