I also think this decision was made months ago.
Bzzzzzzz. Wrong!

I just posted a link from the Saints website. Read it

“Ben has had a contract offer from the Club for a number of months now, so we’re naturally disappointed to receive this news, particularly as we believe Ben has a lot of good football in front of him,” Head of List Management James Gallagher said.
I see. Maybe tone down the aggression. We're all on the same team.

GCS is reportedly offering Long a $600K contract. He’s good, but not THAT good. A shame to see him go to a plastic AFL entity, though.

EDIT:

"Competitive Stamina" appears to be the mantra - I guess stay in the game longer / stay in the game when challenged...hopefully stay in the season when challenged.
Title of the review report?

The list is growing.
Whatever the assessments on here I am sure we can all agree Ben gave the club far more than Hannebery, for a lot less money, disharmony and ridicule.

(Don't you think he is better than some of Melbourne's no name flankers: Rivers, Sproule, Hunt.....and they play for a top 4 side.)

And sometimes I wonder about Ben being better value than Brad H. in hard fought games. But price tags say I must be wrong.

ST KILDA'S Ben Long has requested a trade to Gold Coast.

AFL.com.au reported last week that Long had attracted interest from the Suns, and the Saints confirmed on Wednesday that he has requested a trade.

I think a swap for Brayden Fiorini would be good. This guy could be real good. He's a better footballer than Long.

It's time players like Long and also the club have a fresh start.

It can be a good thing for both parties.

After 5 years what more is there to see.
i reckon there is a lot more to see from Long
he is on the up...if we lose him it will be to our disadvantage.
we will regret losing him. Bookmark this..I am willing to be called out if wrong.
He needs a fresh start and we need to try another player on the list.

What makes you think he is on the up?
it's the vibe

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a contract worth $600,000 for a few years would , if it was a free agency compensation pick, come in at end of first round.

That's what we should be getting for him, pick 25

Based on his last game for us, he's worth at least what Gold Coast is happy to pay him, and at least a second round pick ... especially given that it is (purported to be, anyway) a very average draft.

Now over to the saint "brain trust" to see what we get suckered into accepting.
