If Brad Hill chooses to leave do we have to pay
Any of his contract. Some say yes some say no. Wouldn't his contract be torn up if he chooses to go and its not seen as a salary cap dump.?

I wonder if Clarko has convinced North that Hill is a part of the answer to their immediate problems ?
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: If Brad Hill chooses to leave do we have to pay
He could retire and North take him in the PSD
That way we would get nothing for him, but we also wouldn't have to pay any of his salary.
More likely it would be a trade, and the higher the draft pick, the greater proportion we pay.
He is contracted and if North want him they will have to make the running.
We gave alot for him, so we need to get something decent back

Interesting one.... I ain't no legal eagle but if he is the one insisting on leaving and requesting a trade then surely that breaks his contract and we wouldn't be liable to honor the remaining years??
Can anyone clarify?

Re: If Brad Hill chooses to leave do we have to pay
It all depends on the conversation between the player and the 2 clubs
If we want to offload him then he has a contract to play for us.
Think of the Daniel Ricciardo situation with Mclaren
If he wants to go then he’s giving up his contract with us and we wouldn’t need to pay him
We would however have to come to terms with the other club as to what we would accept as a trade

Re: If Brad Hill chooses to leave do we have to pay
Problem at the moment is that North only have one pick in the Top 50 .... which is Pick 1
North's 2nd pick is currently 55
North's 2nd pick is currently 55

Hill is contracted and North are chasing him, so if we do pay anything it would improve the trade value to a higher pick.

That was a bit silly of them.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Nope a retired play can't be placed on a AFL list for 18 months

Aren't they a good chance to get a priority pick?

If we’re on track to reverse decisions on players we recruited or brought in is it too late to get Petracca instead of McCartin
I’d even settle for Angus Brayshaw

Although how handy would McCartin be in our side these days, looks like he's made it and is a big chance to be a premiership player.

I’m pretty sure Hill is no longer on 900K..likely he was on a front loaded deal, now 3 years old.
The compensation for him could be a priority pick that north gets end of 1st round that they would have to trade or a player of interest to us (hopefully not Xerri!).

I'm unsure of the amount he's on but agree that his sign on figure would have been large.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Sat 27 Aug 2022 9:38am I’m pretty sure Hill is no longer on 900K..likely he was on a front loaded deal, now 3 years old.

If Clarko & North want him, then I'd be after their priority pick or Philips or Powell (2020 draft) I think. I suspect North may try to offload that ex Richmond player, Coleman-Jones.
If St Kilda don't secure more than one RFA / FA, if one at all, then we can afford to pay a largish chunk of his salary next season. This then creates a decent size war chest for another run at Bing whilst we concentrate on mids & KPD via the drafts.

If I was running the show there would be no way I'd even consider moving on Hill unless a godfather deal.
Just crazy. Sinclair is an AA due to teams tagging Hill rather than Sinclair.

Re: If Brad Hill chooses to leave do we have to pay
I do agree with your first sentence simply because if North want & Hill wants to move, we should not make it easy especially because of the outlay we coughed up for him.SaintDippa wrote: ↑Sat 27 Aug 2022 10:00am If I was running the show there would be no way I'd even consider moving on Hill unless a godfather deal.

I'm not too fond of the individual accolades when we are not making finals. Hill getting tagged helped Sincs shine but ultimately did not help us play finals. Getting more players in with Sinclairs work ethic, obvious mental toughness and skill will help us build a team to play finals.

Yes, that had me scratching my head. I hope Roo left out a North player thrown in OR else that's a shocking result for the Club & damning on our recruiters, their negotiation skills & player identification & valuations.

From the hun.
"Moneyball AFL trades: All the latest news and whispers on potential 2022 player movement
St Kilda’s season promised so much and ended disappointingly and now a former champion is urging the Saints to put a top star on the trade table/
Brad Hill is keen for a new start in part to reunite at North Melbourne with Alastair Clarkson but also to play in a position that maximises his strengths.
The Herald Sun revealed last week Hill had been in regular contact with his former coach Clarkson about a move to the Roos in what would effectively form a salary dump.
Hill believes his talents haven’t been utilised as best they could playing half back and half forward.
And there remains some discontent about the events of the round 15 game which he missed through personal issues, with the club denying it was connected to him being at a Mordialloc pub that weekend.
St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt said on Fox Footy last week a deal where St Kilda got a mid-30s pick and paid around $300,000 of his $800,000-plus salary would be a fair swap.
Alternatively the Roos could pay more of the deal — he has three more seasons left — but only hand back a late pick.
St Kilda is being urged by past players to consider all scenarios, including even putting Jade Gresham on the table to see what rivals might throw at an injury-prone player who has managed only 32 games in the past three years."

Re: If Brad Hill chooses to leave do we have to pay
Trying to understand how being tagged makes you miss kicks when clear, drop straightforward handballs when clear and miss one on one tackles. Is there mind control going on? A chip inserted in his right leg? A chip on his shoulder?
Is there also the possibility Brad has been running dead to help get a clearance.
Seems a strange dude in some ways, always smiling, said nice things about how the club facilitated his move back from WA, our indigenous recognition program and yet is in talks with the enemy, which are somehow leaked and not refuted. Personality clash with other players?
Ratts may have had to massage his ego with some of his defensive comments at pressers?
We have kept our side of the bargain, his manager might remind him of the responsibilities that come with that. Interesting how this will all play out because if North want him they have the quid pro quos to get him from us. Sub contract Peter bell to negotiate?
