King 0.5 to 5.0
Credit to the big fella he would have been feeling the pressure all week. To com out and play the game he did, show the aggression he did and move to space as he did was a real credit to him and shows us what a champion he’ll be longer term
Of all the articles last week on his 0.5 I can’t find one on his 5.0

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
Yep, has gone 52.41 for the year. That's the best return from a tall forward we've had since Roo. Yet there are trolls who claim he "can't play in the forward line".
He had 3 bad games where he went 0.5, 1.7 and 2.5, but apart form that has been very good, with returns including 6.0, 5.0, and 4.1 a couple of times.
The Coleman medallist has gone 3.9 over the last 2 weeks in games Carlton have collectively lost by less than a goal and subsequently missed finals, where's the carry on about that?

Wonder if those who ripped him last week ( not pointed out technique flaws but ripped him and questioned his worth ) have all gone on holidays already.............

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
As best as I can tell… the major room for improvement is more holding his technique when he misses a few early.
That quality is pbly the difference between his current standard and properly realising his full potential.
At the moment… he’s pbly the type of player that really needs a gimme early to get the swagger up and then he’s fine.
Seems like once the rut starts, it’s hard for him to work through it.
I will say this though…
Even when he was having that hard time last week, I was actually still quite impressed by his willing to back himself shot after shot… especially later in the game, as opposed to looking to dish off or get someone else to take the responsibility.
Seems no matter how hard it gets for him, King doesn’t shirk anything.
I respect that

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
He has flaws in his technique, hopefully it’s not too late to correct them. He’s had them since the Nab League. But when you’re a young superstar no one will tell you that there’s an issue, largely because these kids have never been given any negative constructive criticism their whole junior careers and can’t take it. And while things appear to be working people don’t want to mess with it. But it comes back to bite them when they’re under the stress and pressure of the AFL.
One thing that he should be able to sort out is that f**king stupid twirling of the ball. Why complicate something when you don’t need to? Btw he didn’t do that in the Nab League, that’s come in since he’s been drafted.

He must of learn't the twirling of the footy from Lloyd. Just like he threw grass to see the wind direction indoors.Leo.J wrote: ↑Mon 22 Aug 2022 12:33pm He has flaws in his technique, hopefully it’s not too late to correct them. He came back very well from a demoralising low. Credit to him. Looked a hell of a lot better with Marshall down there to try to spread the load. It’s never healthy to be over reliant on any one player.

He stopped twirling the bloody ball and had absolutely no pressure!

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
The left foot boundary set shot Max attempted was an example of poor technique. He just dropped the ball somewhere near his foot and didn't guide it with his hand. Would have been a miracle if it had gone through. Surely someone can sort that out.
Otherwise Max had a good day.

He has had technical flaws for so long now it's gotten into his head which looks like the bigger hurdle. His mental fragility is best illustrated by his performance in a game and/or moment that matters compared to a dead rubber game.

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
So much for all those disbelievers that wrote him off last week, some even suggesting he would never ever achieve his potential: come on all of you regular forumites and admit that you were way too premature to jump so quickly to the wrong conclusions!!
Are Gary Lyon, Matthew Lloyd et al in the media going to eat their words and instead commend Max King on their programmes this week? And they have the temerity to call themselves experts!!
Shame on all of them!!
Both King and Ratten would have enjoyed the satisfaction of sticking to their guns, there was no need for panic stations as many stated!!

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
Max King Carey was playing yesterday.
Played higher up the ground with room to run and really crashed the packs hard.
The first two shots being a snap and on the run set the scene for him.
He looks incredibly dangerous playing higher up the ground and his field kicking and agility for a guy 200cm+ is incredible.
Hopefully that is more of his role next season and less sitting like a statue at the top of the square apposed to 3 defenders.

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
I liked how he put Tom McCartin down and in pain, which let him run into space and get the goal.
It was fierce enough that Paddy ignored the play and went to check on his bro, even though the ball was coming in hot.

Why don't you comment on his performances in the Tigers or Freo or Adelaide games earlier in the year?

Re: King 0.5 to 5.0
Only Charlie Curnow (106) and Tom Hawkins (95) had more scoring shots in 2022.
And I dare say Max would've had more non-scoring shots than the two above.
100+ shots at goal for a 22 year old is extremely good.

Pretty sure it was also King who sent Blakey off in the crunching marking contest at half forward.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 22 Aug 2022 3:29pm I liked how he put Tom McCartin down and in pain, which let him run into space and get the goal.

He had an absolute shocker of a season after the bye, his poor attitude was hardest to accept and he would disintegrate mentally very early in a game if things didn't go his way which then impacted the whole team. It's very concerning for an elite sports person to be so mentally fragile.
He needed to kick goals the week before when it mattered, I just find it annoying more than anything that he kicked goals yesterday in a dead rubber...who cares.
