Skilled, but not a mid IMO, possible forward pocket..or try him in the backline where his skills would be a real benefit. I would however just get him to put the footy away over summer and train with a running coach.

He just needs to take the first option more often. Gets caught or loses possession trying to do too much and turns an unpressured kick into a pressured one.

Re: Ratten on 360
Richo's legacy has created too many players with bad habits. Billings and Gresham come to mind for different reasons. Seb Ross was also in trouble post Richardson but his work ethic and dedication and professionalism and his footy intelligence has allowed him to evolve his game.
Gresh had been on the end of some very good passages of play from his team mates in his first few seasons as well as kicking a freak goal against Geelong in his first year, but he needs to get his head around the concept of team. Gresh is definitely one of our most talented players, but the discipline and the team first mentality has been missing at times.
Jade Gresham needs to play within his capabilities and needs to learn to kick to a team mate!! Simply force the player to change their habits or we get rid of him. Get him to practice ONLY kicking to a leading team mate.
Once again, we have guys who have been given the luxury of playing selfish footy and getting away with it. I’d get some of the leaders to pull him aside and just tell him some home truths. He sometimes refuses to dish it off to maintain possession and would rather try and fend off and have a ping from 55 m out instead of looking to pass the footy.
Gresh has a tendency to burn our forwards because he simply has not mastered the art of kicking to a team mate.
After Gresh's first couple of seasons when he continually tried to sidestep, spin out of tackles and snap goals from ridiculous angles he should have been pulled aside. If Cho had told him that he'd be dropped if he didn't play the percentages and pass the footy to his team mates in a better position then he wouldn't have continued playing selfish footy over the last 5 years

Maybe something like 70/30 forward/mid, or put him on the wing.older saint wrote: ↑Thu 18 Aug 2022 12:45pmHe just needs to take the first option more often. Gets caught or loses possession trying to do too much and turns an unpressured kick into a pressured one.
He's too small to be in there at centre bounces with the modern day midfielder.

I'm not convinced by this guy. Cannot play midfield, is slow, has bad disposal and is injury prone. Everytime he gets the ball he runs in circles and I need to look away. Almost Kramer like.
Maybe go back and watch him again.

Re: Ratten on 360
Yeah I blame Richo too!!!
BTW
Gresham kicked 35 in a season under Richo as a 20yo
Billings twice finished top 5 in the B&F
Seb Ross won two B&Fs
There were many poor players under AR - we bungled a pathetic attempt at a rebuild thanks to Pelchen & Elshaug
But those 3 players played far better un AR

Re: Ratten on 360
Is it Brett Rattens fault that Jade and JB are injured?
Have you forgotten Alan's record as a coach
Did you want Ross getting 30 touches each week and missing 2 out of every 3 targets by foot?
If Cho was a good coach we'd have developed a lot more players instead of just having to turn over the list and import talent
Membrey, Roberton, Steele etc.. came from other clubs.
If Cho was a good coach he would have come up with the idea to try McCartin as a defender. Once Paddy had multiple concussions, what was stopping Cho from using the talent and using what Paddy possessed as far as footy skills to the advantage of the team and the club? Why did it take some other club to figure that out, when we had the player under our nose and we had already invested so much in him?
And ...if he did think of the idea...and he was overruled by Lethlean...then that points to his weakness and his inability to back himself. It was the same with his initial doubts on Paddy when he was convinced by Elshaugh that McCartin was the best choice for the number 1 pick
If Cho was a good coach, he wouldn't have alienated a player like Hickey while elevating a player like Longer
If Cho was a good coach, he wouldn't have dropped Jack Steele after the Good Friday game in 2018
Oh hang on....You'll be telling me next that it was part of his 'development' right?
What next? Did you want to credit Richo for Jack Steele's All Australians?

Re: Ratten on 360
Rowan Marshall in Cho's eyes was fourth in line in 2017
Hickey had a really good consistent year in 2016 even matching it with guys like Max Gawn, but Cho knew better and he anointed Longer as our number 1 ruck in 2017
Pierce, and Hickey and Longer were all injured so he was forced to finally give Marshall a proper run in 2018

Marshall was a first year player
But don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story
