Ratten on 360
He looked gutted from friday night and missing finals which is good.
He is honest with his answers and acknowledged in hindsight the comment about not looking at outside help given his time again would be answered differently.
Spoke about changes to the list be that via trade, FA or draft.
While i don't think there will be huge changes I get the feeling there will be a name leaving - some may have mentioned already or one we will all be surprised with.
Jones is the one for me. Hill is expensive and hot and cold (sometimes plays with the lights on) however he seems to provide something overall we lack and has had a reasonable season. Other options which may surprise - Paton, Highmore, Billings, Gresham (doubtful) Sharman,
Talk about unhappy younger players wanting to leave in the 2's, to me i sometime think it is just people bored and putting 2 and 2 together and getting 8. Bytel - injured most of the year and came back to Sandy but needed to get game fit and when did we won 2 in a row. Perhaps i am wrong and there is something we don't know- at best a 3rd rounder i would think. Connolly mentioned as well as NWM. All gossip - time will tell.

The club needs to make some tough list and assistant coaching calls, or they will continue on the same trajectory of mediocrity.

Why can’t we have an honest convo with NWM now (Hopefully we have) he is going to be good but he hasn’t signed like Owens & Windy, let’s safeguard against us getting extreme unders for him next year if he moves on!(Remember Cripps)

If so we'd have to pay a huge part of his salary if he was traded IMO.
He'd only fit a side contending and if he wants to stay in Melbourne (VIC) Geelong, Richmond, Collingwood and none of them pay overs for traded players.
Jones, you'd think he's worth little on the market.
Perhaps he can be redeployed as a small forward or defender, he's not a true midfielder.
Bytel, DFA if he goes and may get a rookie slot somewhere, no currency IMO.
Similar to Charlie Constable me thinks.
We don't have much that would attract decent picks so unless we are salary dumping there is probably no point.

If we dump or trade Bytel, I fear he will become our Jack Steele with another club with more foresight than the Saints.

Speculation about trades etc are best posted on the first topic on this forum, "Trade - Draft 2022 Discussion" by Ghost Like - it's going to be ongoing for the next
3 months.
Robbo tried his utmost to paint Ratten into a corner over the King goalkicking issue, a low act because you are hardly going to reveal the details of internal discussions about this.

I hope we do a ‘Ben McEvoy’ type trade
Where we allow some poor StK player to go to a decent club to get some success
Worked well for us in 2013

Re: Ratten on 360
They should trade Gresham out. I'm not convinced by this guy. Cannot play midfield, is slow, has bad disposal and is injury prone. Everytime he gets the ball he runs in circles and I need to look away. Almost Kramer like.

Maybe go back and watch him again.

Gresh doesn’t need to be traded, he just needs to be used properly.

Home sickness aside, it is surprising if NWM wants to leave.
By all reports he’s good mates with Windhager and Owens plus the club has an excellent indigenous program.

Agree wholeheartedly, however the club needs to be careful and not throw the baby out with the bath water!
We don’t have much in the way of high end talent so maybe hit the free agency & draft to build a better list.

NWM may just need to go home for a while over the Summer and figure out his commitment before re signing.
I think one thing the club has done well in recent times, is look after our indigenous players welfare.

Remember when the then Crows recruitment officer mentioned to the then AFL indigenous liaison officer that indigenous draftees had particular adjustment issues and was summarily sacked when the comment was made public.(I think both the recruitment officer and the liaison officer both worked for the Saints in the past.)Banger9798 wrote: ↑Wed 17 Aug 2022 7:51pm NWM may just need to go home for a while over the Summer and figure out his commitment before re signing.

Re: Ratten on 360
If the comment on Gresham is that he runs around in circles and does not hurt oppositions, what about Ross who is widely lauded on here?
Gresham actually thrived with Ryder rucking
The problem is injuries - and not only to Gresham
And, as I have put on here before, KPP support for Howard and King plus a replacement for Ryder

When Gresh wins 2 B&F 's & can actually stay on the park for a complete season maybe he might be in Seb's league but ATM not even in his shadow IMOKilla wrote: ↑Wed 17 Aug 2022 8:44pm If the comment on Gresham is that he runs around in circles and does not hurt oppositions, what about Ross who is widely lauded on here?

Then he's in a bit of a pickle, because he is definitely not a midfielder.

I didn’t say he was a permanent midfielder.
Not a great range of midfield options for him to be a perm small forward.

Re: Ratten on 360
Forget about 360, i wonder if anyone at St Kilda would like to do a 180 on Ratten's renewal.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
