Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 21 2022
The Saints lack the defensive game that Lyon brought to the team years back- that's why the Cats and other teams get easy goals against us. Ratts hasn't got a defensive bone in his coaching body

Owens, mate I think you're awesome, but I've got Tom Stewart in my fantasy team - 4 points at half time. Unbelievable, great work. 18 years old on the captain? WTF

Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 21 2022
Just imagine…..if we had a transition game plan that at times brought the ball forward with fluency
The connection into 50 would be far cleaner
It’s great they’re having a crack they are but it’s such hard scrappy work …it’s heart n mouth every handball…
We have to play smarter not just with pressure
That said
Sharman - great
Long - great
Steele - great
Membrey trying hard

Scollop, we were beating both these teams when Richardson was coach.Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 06 Aug 2022 9:08pmReally?? Melbourne played off in a prelim in 2019. Week after week we play the complete opposite.
Went to the Melb and Pies game last night with family friends and honestly we are a rabble in the way our team has developed.
The worst part is, a few years back, we actually were ahead of these two teams.
Your point about Melbourne playing off in a prelim in 2019, Collingwood narrowly losing the GF in 2018 and of course Melb winning the GF in 2021, with Collingwood now a good chance to win it again in 2022, just magnifies how pathetic we have been in building a list/team to challenge for a flag, since our 2010 GF loss.
We have been in footy wilderness, so to speak, for 12 years now.
If there is ever a time for this under achieving club to finally stand up and partially salvage another disappointing season, it's tonight!

Intensity that qrt was off the chart.
Forcing mistakes. Can they keep that up for another half

Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 21 2022
Lyon lost when it mattered because his team couldn’t score enough.
The good teams can move the ball quickly and if you can’t score over 10 goals you are mince meat
Not sure if people are up with matches played lately, but you don’t win games of footy these days unless you have a strong offensive game.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 21 2022
We could have clarko as coach right now and it would be same result ….were still short on players that either poor kickers poor thinkers or just not desperate or have the drive to win

Big deal if we beat them in h&a. We also beat Richmond by a record score in 2017

Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 21 2022
No don’t agree
We have no system
You see players going forward at times looking lost, uncertain it looks “hot potato” footy sometimes…it’s not repeatable
It lacks the ability for your players to instinctively know where to run to , where to take space , when to go vs hold
Consistency is important it can make ok players look like world beaters
We are not consistent because we are poorly coached
No transition no forward 50 connection
But they’re at least trying hard
But gee it’s hard work

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 21 2022
Why are people mentioning Collingwood when they have 9 players 29 plus in their best 22.
