Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
Simple questions to answer from the cheap seats.
- What will he cost to get to the club - salary?
- Will he cost more in regard to brand damage/ sponsors etc?
- He has now had 2 matters involving poor treatment of women. Clearly an issue. What has he done to address this issue and does he acknowledge its a problem as when he got back from Bali he didn't seem to think there was an issue.
- Will he make the team better on field? - Yes he briongs something we haven't had since Milne X factor
- Is he willing to get fit- AFL mid field fit? Munster acknowledged he has a problem with alcohol and got off it, got fit and has become arguably the best player in the NRL. Is DeGoey willing to make such a change?
Roo talks about lack of leadership to control him, which may be true. That said playing devils advocate we had strong leadership in his era and Fisher was on the gear for much of that time. Leadership can only do so much its up to the individual where all of these questions must be asked.

I would say peoples, that regarding DeGoey's standing as a person, people in glass houses etc. We know nothing about the lives of the rest of the playing group or others at the club, so let's just concentrate on football.

If there is one thing that the Saints board has shown in the last decade it that they are world champs in selecting duds to come to the club, with the major exception being Jack Steele, who must have been a mistake. Jack Steele is the sort of player we do want at the club - Jordan De Goey is not.

Don't like the board getting involved in on-field matters.
Reeks a bit of "The Club" for mine.
Urge the football department that you've put in place to do their due diligence. But let them do their job.
I'd be more concerned about our own player development. Sam Fisher was the last player we drafted to make AA. That is an out and out disgrace and our player development program needs an overhaul as a result. We are doing something terribly wrong there.
Until that improves, we are left with little choice but to bring in talent that someone else has developed for us.

I think it also means that Collingwood dont want him and nor do the cats want to pay big $s.
Price should be plumetting.
I hope we don't end up back flipping and doing a Hannebery like super deal. One with dodgy legs the other with dodgy brain.
Short, modest, performance based contract if anything. Find out if he really wants to play for us. If not we dodge a bullet.

unfortunately the board needs to be involved in this one as it has the potential to cost $millions if it goes pear shaped be that in memberships lost and or sponsors.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Tue 02 Aug 2022 12:50pm Don't like the board getting involved in on-field matters.

Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
Should we read from this that Collingwood feel as if they lack the leadership to control him? I mean if he is such a match winner and has so much potential why are they dumping him? And somehow we are so strong in the leadership department that his attitude is not going to be an issue if he comes to us? I wonder how Goofy is going to react when Steele pulls him aside and says: hey bud, pull your head in, ok? This is your last warning.older saint wrote: ↑Tue 02 Aug 2022 10:22am Simple questions to answer from the cheap seats.

Freely
Lovett was different altogether
He was an absolute lazy c*** who had achieved FA on field and we gave up a First Round Pick for him!
But that’s ok, and so is that he was a known drunk who frequently missed training!
It’s the fact he was a woman basher … that’s the reason our playing group despised him
Cousins, Fisher, DeGoey, Crouch all like to party - but are great footballers and hard trainers.
I couldn’t care if they inject cocaine up their arses in their spare time as long as they make us a better team!
Sponsors - pfft - all they care about is winning!
Win a flag and see if we get a few on board even become relevant would help!
Board
- know FA about footy!!!
Stay out of footy department matters!!!
Wtf would Andrew Basset know about winning games of footy?!

Are there implications/rumours out there RE DeGoey having shall we say, domestic or other issues of that nature?

P66 has a good footy brain too, this site lost most of its more footy knowledgeable posters when the PC Sherrifs run him out of town, it was a turning point and the beginning of the decline of SS as it lost a huge amount of posters to Big Footy.
Ironically we are debating De Goey on PC grounds

Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
He's over at Big Footy and he's one of my favourites, I don't think he'd come back for a couple of reasons, one I think there aren't enough posters on the site which has really created a very narrow echo chamber that lacks diversity of views and opinions which is not helped with the style of moderation, and secondly reason number one causes there to be limited footy knowledge of which is mostly a regurgitation of mainstream media sound bites.Rubyjo wrote: ↑Tue 02 Aug 2022 8:32pmP66 bring him back .Vortex wrote: ↑Tue 02 Aug 2022 8:27pmP66 has a good footy brain too, this site lost most of its more footy knowledgeable posters when the PC Sherrifs run him out of town, it was a turning point and the beginning of the decline of SS as it lost a huge amount of posters to Big Footy.

A very minor point. Many years ago I posted under the pseudonym rwb. I posted one day that I didn't mind the away strip that was predominantly yellow. Well I got a pasting. Told I wasn't a real supporter etc etc. Perhaps I am thin skinned but it put me off for years. I have enjoyed reading SS but wary I must confess. PS I don't have a great footy brain just love the Saints.

Social media of any type but especially the ones with anonymous members is not a place for the faint hearted or thin skinned.1971 wrote: ↑Tue 02 Aug 2022 9:01pm A very minor point. Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
Are we?
I will admit that I had a peak on a filth forum to see what the consensus on degoofy is from their perspective. (First time ever ok yuk)
I didnt stay long but the impression I got from their supporters about him seems to boil down to:
- Not a good trainer
- Doesnt buy into team ethos
- Would be ok value on 2 years performance based contract between $500000 - $600000 per annum. Some suggest $650000.00
- The other thing mentioned over again is that a sucker club like the Saints might pick him up for huge coin and lots of laughter about that.
He must be really impressing them down there!
Of course once he comes to the Saints with our solid coaching staff, game plan and infallible leadership system Degoey will have a total rehabilitation, will start training the house down and take us to the holy grail off his own professionalism. That is what I am reading here. Such a different picture over there. Begs a few questions.
Perhaps a glimpse of where we are at as a club where many here see gooey as the second coming where over there they appear to be quite happy to see the end of him.
Not sure if any of these points are PC?
If you are brave enough here is a long thread on filth forum that I took a peak at:
Subject: Jordan DeGoey 2023 deep dive discussion
https://www.magpies.net/nick/bb/viewtopic.php?t=90664
of course it is all fan forum stuff so usual disclaimer for veracity. And apologies for posting a link to filth. Will accept a ban for this.

But on the value thing, I'd say that's the reason he'll stay at the Pies, they'll offer him a very similar contract to what we would, which is for a dollar amount similar to what you are suggesting but heavily laced with performance caveats, THAT, if he delivers on will see him pick up performance payments that brings him back to the bigger payout he would have originally received anyway if the Bali and NY events didn't transpired.
If he has similar contracts on the table I think he'll choose the Pies, that's if they intend on cutting him regardless. And if that happens then we are a chance to snare a really good deal.

I may have slightly over egged the (footy) negatives from that thread. Just had another look. Can go missing for extended periods/games but can be a match winner in bursts. What would I know. See what happens.

On the image thing, I'm not going to get into the ethics debate, but if he gets suspended by the club or by the AFL for off field stuff not going to win much ball. But he will get a decent discount on MOSH so could be ok.
