Re: Max King
Just watched the replay & thought Max was good last night especially up the ground some really strong contested marks & ended up with 3 goals so he might have some of the knockers of his back until next week anyway

Impressed with Max though. Agile for a bloke his size.

I’d rather King kick 3 every week with 3-4 goal kickers spread across the field to be honest
He was also important as a link player
I can’t believe anyone would suggest he didn’t have a hood game??

Re: Max King
He's really struggling to live up to the hype isn't he.
Has he had a breakout game yet or a game that belies his DP4 draft standing.
The excuse seems to be he's only 22 but I'm not so sure.
If he's not careful the media will turn on him and start to openly ask these types of questions.

Max is 4th in the goalkicking, will probably kick over 50 goals this year, in a forward line which has often been disjointed and often he is competing against at least two opponents.
His conversion rate is the worst amongst the top 20 goal kickers this year, if he improved conversion to their level he would be about second in the goalkicking. Needs to improve that aspect, otherwise he's fine.
We need to sort out the functioning of the forward line, more to the point.

Re: Max King
Yeah but I think Levi’s had a few more games than Max…so I’m comfortable in Max’s career trajectory
Are you saying Levi’s as good as Max ??
Fascinating..
Sharman you might have a point right now…
But do tell us all why Max is no good now and won’t make it…

Re: Max King
Stop being so sensible Teffers.
Max has had three seasons post ACL and he’s not Plugger standard yet so he’s a bust #4 pick with mental & algae problems.
Don’t look at Harry McKay as a similar comparison who took 5-6 seasons to develop into a consistent damaging key forward, pot the young man as a bust #4 pick who is ahead of McKay at the same age because he is not Wayne Carey yet.
FWIW and only on TV, I thought he looked pretty good and mobile last night playing higher up the ground and appeared to lead more at the kicker.
Obviously set shots still an issue.

I just did a comparison of Max and H McKay for this year (Harry is 2 years older). Their figures for this year are almost identical (courtesy AFL stats)
Then I looked up Hawkins as a young player, it took him until his 6th season (really 4th as first two not many games) to kick over 40 goals
I think Max is doing really well and as I have said can’t wait for 2024 and have him surrounded by NWM, Marcus and Mitch, it’s going to be fun

Re: Max King
On Max King
- Screaming for a tall forward who can take marks
- Looking for a player half decent below the knees
At 50 games Max is filling both these roles - gives us a tall and - effectively another small
I would still imagine he would draw to 5 in a draft
He is a gun - and will get his kicking sorted - will probably spend all off season on it - someone needs to just settle his routine
The top 5 in the current Coleman race:
I for one am happy with his progress - sure I want 10 goals a game - but 2.5 as an average puts you in Cameron territory and he is 35 goals from that (21 and he shares an average with Hawkins) - so a couple of 'bags' and he will be there
He IS a once in a generation player - FFS - back off and let him mature
He is 22 years old and usually draws the #1 defender - in fact usually draws 2 or 3 - it is up to the rest of the team to provide the separation to help Maxxy master his craft

Re: Max King
I suppose GameDay life will remain tough for Max as long as we don't have another marking tall fwd, Brad Hill can't get much of the ball and we don't have another good kick at centre bounces.

Re: Max King
LOL - or if we have say - Long streaming towards goal unmarked and we look for King in the Pocket
Higgins would have had time to retrieve the ball - take his boots off - swap them for the other feet - re-tie them - and then kick the goal - but we kick it to King

And as a side bar, Higgins needs to make himself more dangerous and demand.

He simply needs to be more confident in drilling those so that his team mates back him to do it

Re: Max King
Secret_Vortex is just blessing us with some more of his customary horrible takes!
Kicked 2.5 but had a lot of low percentage shots. Needs to get out of the pockets.
And pretty sure he won the Adelaide game off his own boot.
How many blokes have we had not named Roo who have kicked 50 goals in a season in the last 15 years?
