Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
It appears Long has made his way into the 22, I really hope he shows enough to still be there the following week. Hopefully that week still matters.
Is Campbell in a sign of Marshall being poor in the ruck or our F50 being poor?
Feel for Byrnes, feel for our development. Surely if Byrnes is to be dropped we can afford a place in the 22 for Owens or NWM.
I agree, nothing inspirational in relation to this weeks selections (again).

The fact we have bought in 2 players over 30 suggests we have no faith in our younger players to deliver or we have already put the cue in the rack IMO

Maybe ,Campbell has played well at Sandy most of the year , obviously Hanner's has only just come back in the last few weeks . So we are either desperate or putting the young blokes on ice hence putting the cue in the rackCURLY wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 9:42pmOr we’ve just picked a team on merit.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 8:14pm The fact we have bought in 2 players over 30 suggests we have no faith in our younger players to deliver or we have already put the cue in the rack IMO

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
To be honest Long should have stayed the medi-sub, he's an impact player.
Great last quarter effort against the Dogs, incredible one quarter (the 2nd) against the Eagles, 6 tackles, 2 possessions and 1 goal with 3 and a half minutes left in the 2nd quarter - 3 possessions and 1 tackle for the 2nd half.
I would have preferred Owens, can play mid or forward and another AFL game would not hurt his development.

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
For future development IMO we would be better playing Owens or Bytel in front of Hanners .CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 10:03pmWhat young blokes should have come in?bangaulegend wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 9:55pmMaybe ,Campbell has played well at Sandy most of the year , obviously Hanner's has only just come back in the last few weeks . Isn’t that putting the cue in the rack?bangaulegend wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 10:22pmFor future development IMO we would be better playing Owens or Bytel in front of Hanners .CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 10:03pmWhat young blokes should have come in?bangaulegend wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 9:55pmMaybe ,Campbell has played well at Sandy most of the year , obviously Hanner's has only just come back in the last few weeks . Owens played one game after coming back from injury.
NWM one game in the VFL possibly working on something he needs to.

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
Maybe, I'd say more like investing for the future & Campbell & Hanner's aren't , I would rather give our future development more game time in our current situation than play 30 year olds that probably won't be with us next year but that's only my opinion you are more than welcome to yours I just don't agree with itCURLY wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 10:33pmIsn’t that putting the cue in the rack?bangaulegend wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 10:22pmFor future development IMO we would be better playing Owens or Bytel in front of Hanners .CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 10:03pmWhat young blokes should have come in?bangaulegend wrote: ↑Thu 28 Jul 2022 9:55pmMaybe ,Campbell has played well at Sandy most of the year , obviously Hanner's has only just come back in the last few weeks . Well, I agree with your second point - we're definitely not developing players.

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
I should explain better what I mean about developing
I mean the senior team is not there for development purposes
If they are good enough to develop in the AFL team (Windhager) then they develop in the Saints team
If they cannot earn a position on form or ability in the AFL then they develop through the VFL
That’s what Sandy is for, from and AFL point of view.

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
It’s a weird stare of affairs when winning games of football and not developing youngsters is code for playing mediocre over the hill players that are odds on to be cut in a few weeks time

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
Marshall rucked for about 90% of the match last week and it was a track fit for the clydesdales…not for the thoroughbreds
I’m disappointed that Byrnes was dropped, but can understand why the decision was made. He’s the mid or winger that had to make way for Hanners
We probably have a lot of players that will have heavy legs. The other reason Campbell is in this week is because we’ll need a scapegoat if we lose
If Marshall doesn’t play and if one or two other players are late omissions from the team, then I think we’ll struggle against the Hawks

But with Richo as coach - whoops sorry meant Ratts - sorry can’t tell the difference between the vanilla ice creams - it’s what we expect.

He needs to work on his defensive game as that's why he got dropped- didn't put any pressure on off the ball, same for Jones.

Possible - but possibly mental [unfortunately]!

Re: Team v Hawks. Hanners back
Only Steele had more tackles than Wanganeen-Milera vs the Bulldogs.
He had career best tackle and pressure act numbers.
