How did Dan Butler go?
Oh he’s back Mehebabble
The quality he took on and destroyed today was immense
And absolutely no cheap goals either - most of his goals were on the run from outside 50
I’d make him captain if I were Ratts cause he always stands up against top 4 opponents like today….
So you’d describe it as one of those hopeless 5 goal performances from a forward that inevitably leads to them being dropped next week.
On the contrary
I’d call it a season defining performance that warrants a 5 year extension because beating up on those Eagles when the season is over is what we are all about at the Saints!!!
Let’s all get around Dans breakout game for 2 years !!!

We beat a bottom-two side and already the “I told you so’s” are coming out?

It’s alarming how little has changed in the last 5 years.

WCE has no McGovern, Natanui, and Darling and Kennedy are well past their best.
They've won 2 games.
It's a game we are expected to win, obligated to win.

Sure we won by 28 pts, but if we were any good, we shoulda beaten them the way we beat the Hawks.
Last yr, Max dined out on them.
This year, he's had more games under his belt, yet wasn't even close.

We shoulda been at least 4 goals in front at half time if we were fair dinkum.

Yes, a win is a win, but like Ratts said, 'you aren't as good as you think you are'.

Yesterday further proved that we come out of the rooms flat.

Since the bye, in first and third quarters we've been outscored by 156 points.

Yet in 2nd and 4th quarters, we've outscored our opposition by 27 points.

Why are we so slow to get going?

Third quarters have been particularly damning since the bye.

Pre bye - 10-1 204.28%
Post bye - 1-6 49.49%

Hear what you are saying.

Higgins and Gresh seem to have an attachment to the goal posts. Both seem to hit them every week without fail. Fix that little quirk and we might well be in front in games at half time.

I get that wins interstate in general are good….

But are we fair dinkum here?
Struggled to beat the 2nd bottom side that has a % of 57 with 2 wins 🙃

We are going backwards a 100mph and at this rate will be bottom 4 next year.

I for one am losing interest when you look at the garbage 2nd rate game we played compared to when you flicked over and watched the last qtr of the other game.

Deadset wasting our time and biding time until we slide down the ladder for the 6556th time in my life.

What is there to actually get excited about?
Where’s the next Dal Santo, Montagna, Hayes, Harvey? Or anyone worthy of playing 250 games in the midfield??
With a nom de plume like yours it is little wonder your comments about the Saints are so miserable

Most savvy supporters would agree that Marcus Windhager is showing great potential to emulate the 4 former players you listed. Likewise Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera. We have not seen enough of Mitchito Owens as he's missed games in the seconds due to injuries after playing just 3 games but he's also considered to be in the frame.

I've been saying since before the season started that the St Kilda list is seriously short of a strong midfield and I have it from reliable authority that the club considers that to be once again be the #1 priority for the club in the drafts and post-season trading.

I'm certainly not going to get carried away by last night's win over the bottom placed and depleted WC Eagles, but it would not have happened if Ratten & Co had not read the riot act out to the players after the insipid loss to the Dogs. So to that extent we can be satisfied that the players responded appropriately and defeated the Eagles in Perth for the first time since 2010. Repeat the performance next week against the much stronger Hawks and they may well remain in contention for finals.

Probably a statement of where this group sit. Great to get a win and keep the great finals tease alive.
Observations:
- Higgins is a very smart footballer. He just needs to find another string to his bow when things aren't going his way
- Butler is your typical small forward/ forward pocket the difference between good and bad is enormous
- Membrey re informed how important he is to the structure of the side.
- Foot skills and decision making remains poor in comparison to top 8 sides.
- Gresham needs to take the first option - just once please !
- Delivery to the forwards is appalling
- Wilkie could be the modern version of S Fisher ( later draft selection, very good backman) - without the drugs!
- Sharman has a long way to go as a back, but if to remain in the system needs another strong to his bow. Be nice if he visited a gym in the off season
- We miss Howard !

Need to be better against Hawthorn who are on a roll, but hey a win is a win

Sorry, am I speaking to Saynta or Stinger?

That win would be the lowest ‘pass’ mark you can get, a D-

Taking a victory lap after that is just continuing the tradition at this club of accepting mediocrity, which history shows doesn’t deliver much in the way of premierships.

Some unfortunately are happy to accept mediocrity though.

Misspelt defining.

It’s a positive thread about how the win isn’t a huge deal given who the oppo was.

We managed to beat a second rate team that would struggle against a WAFL team.

For a team with a bad percentage hoping for a finals appearance should have annihilated West Coast

The silence is the morning for this years season.

This is funny.

Yeah sure, a win is a win. Good to win in Perth for the second time this year.

But do you really reckon Brett Ratten will actually see out his contract if we continue with these garbage F50 entries?
Do you really reckon Brett Ratten will actually see out his contract when the team is a week by week effort lottery?

We deserved the pile on last week. We have deserved the pile on for the past month. Just not good enough. Sure, enjoy the win, but the bottom line is that we are so far below the benchmark it is a rather large concern.

These guys don’t have anything on the above mentioned 🥴

You knew that when they came in, within a year we knew that our run was coming.
Anyone that says that about NWM or Owens at the moment must have great rose coloured glasses.

The only one that is showing a lot at present is Windhager because he doesn’t cop any s***.

The others are far too timid.

Eagles had nothing to gain by winning & I'm not saying they tanked but not sure they did everything in the power to win if that makes sense

Well he has to look like he GAF to make it look legit . As I said I'm not saying they tanked & everyone else can draw their own conclusions but after talking to a few Eagle supporters since the loss they are definitely not unhappy with the result quite the opposite & quietly relieved because at one point they thought they might actually win .
