Re: Changes for Hawthorn game.
Leinert definitely stays.
Tall and rangey and mobile. Was amongst our best today.
Sharman doing ok in an unusual position. We are undersized as it is, I say he keeps his spot. Uses the ball well by foot.
Bytel in for Billings, and Owens for Hill (but it will never happen)

Re: Changes for Hawthorn game.
How injured are Billings and Gresham? Has the club said anything?

Lienert should never have been dropped and should never be dropped.

Re: Changes for Hawthorn game.
Bringing Jones straight back in would be absolutely ridiculous.

He was very ordinary at Sandy yesterday.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Re: Changes for Hawthorn game.
Also Jimmy Webster might not come up for Hawks - that shoulder looked very iffy after he was crunched. Think he was just patched up to last final moments of game.

Byrnes did enough to keep his spot.
18 possessions and used the ball well

Or maybe he’s related to that professional bike riding dynasty? Sid Patterson, was the grandad, then there was a son & a grandson, can’t recall their first names. Both represented Australia.

I’d like to see Connolly get a game... Paton could use a spell IMO or if Webster doesn’t come up.

Out:
Billings (inj)
Gresham (inj)
Byrnes
In:
Hannebery
Wanganeen-Milera
Owens
The only problem is lack of talls against the much taller Hawthorn line-up which is why I'd retain Lienert and Sharman, both did enough to retain their spots.

Re: Changes for Hawthorn game.
It's time to move on from Jones. His decision making and ball use are not up to scratch, and as a midfielder he's been over-taken by Windhager, and before too long, Owens will also go past him.
Out: Billings, Byrnes, Gresham (if injured)
In: Owens, Hannebery, Connolly
Hill should also be dropped - outside of his first quarter, he was appalling yesterday, but we all know Ratts will never drop Hill.
The reason I've included Hannebery is that this is the last roll of the dice for him. If we're going to have any chance of making finals, then we're going to need good ball users and smart decision makers in the team.
If he breaks down again, then it's safe to say that his time at the saints will come to a spectacular and disappointing end.
Byrnes is just not AFL standard. TBH he's borderline VFL quality. I'd much rather play Leo Connolly as he at least has exceptional ball use and didn't do a lot wrong in the games he played last year. Unfortunately for him, he missed a lot of pre-season and has been playing catch up all season. But when fully fit, his kicking skills are a real weapon. He probably needs to work on his physicality, but there is a lot to like.
