Amazing how better players make coaches look good!!!
Didn’t you realise that the Board are responsible for our terrible on field performances?
Spot on!!
They have zero to do with
They only appoint the senior coach ….
Whose main job is apparently to ensure his players turn up for whole game/season!!
Who could possibly question the Board …just pay the bills right????

I can't believe people think it's Rath's fault, no wonder we are shite, no one has a clue.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

The internet is thoroughly fascinating how it works, the property steward comes on here and says Rath has too much influence over the property stewards and the comment from there morphs into Rath is a useless arsehole who is turning our top 4 players into spuds. Makes sense.

I don’t think the club can survive another rebuild, which is the way this list is heading.

We’ve already been through two since the Lyon era and we have a single finals campaign (in the * year) to show for it. Now we’re heading from 8-3 to missing the finals altogether and what does the club do? Re-sign the coach for another two years???

The AFL can’t sustain 10 Vic teams in the long term and sadly, I think St. Kilda’s time to cement stability in the modern AFL market has come and gone.

I think Tassie is our only option for a secure future.

The apples they send to the mainland are counted as exports.
talking 'myths'

our apple trees were bulldozed when Gough was in power

a time where
disco , poofs , greenies 'n non drinkers lived
north of Campbell Town
'n were also considered an apple variety
should they dare venture into Slowbart

exotic craybait was a thing

Ask someone from the Nth of the State, not some smug Slowbart dimwit FFS. You will get a different answer,

haha , we I have spent a lot of time in tassy going back to the late 70s...mostly in the sth , found all tasmanians lovely people..nth and sth. Its human nature to have a rivalrly with a neighbour...look at freo Perth or any suburb in Melb.
etc etc.
I used to chuckle at their rivalry and it would probably upset them to have to share a state side :)

Tasmania will eventually get a team I have no doubt, how they get it is another story.

PS Love Tasmania..oh and scuttle I also had a father in law down there. :)
and asiu I remember dem apples

So has the Eddster given up on his vision of Bucks coaching a Collingwood premiership: Collingwood as a beacon of enlightened diversity.
Now its Tasmania the home of football's future. AFL's version of LIV.
Watch him on TV, superior intellect my bottom. He just knows where the lowest common denominator lies.

Amazing how better players make coaches look good!!!
Who do you reckon had the best playing lists between 2011 & 2017, Geelong or Hawthorn.

Scott has a win loss record around 68% with only 2011 flag.
Clarkson won 3 flags with a win loss at 58% or thereabouts.

Do you think coaching of Scott or Clarkson significantly contributed to Hawthorn’s dominance and Geelong’s perceived underachieving in finals?

Who would you prefer at Saints, Scott or Clarko or does it make no difference in your opinion?

Our speculations are a bit like online Battleships but Club isn't telling us if we are scoring hits or not.

There's internal rivalry.
Replanting any team into that state will upset both factions, as it's an obvious insult to them.
GWS was created in a vacuum of Aussie Rules, the local rugby folk got a bit miffed but figured GWS won't damage their brand.

Tassie folk are proudly anti-mainland and parochial.
Giving them a failing team is a slap in the face for them, as it says 'you're not good enough to deserve your own team, we'll give you a reject'.
Your talking s*** , I’ve lived here for 18 years most Tasmanians would walk over broken glass to watch an AFL home team… sorry

If you said to me

You can have Hawthorns or Geelongs list from 2013-2019 and Richo as Coach

Or

You can have StKs list with Clarkson or Scott as coach

I would take option A

Yes Clarkson was coach
Coach of Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Roughead, Burgoyne, Rioli, Lake, Frawley, Smith, Birchall, Hill, McEvoy
FMD
I could coach that side to a few wins

On the other hand
Geelong
Dangerfield, Selwood, Hawkins, Taylor, Duncan, Bartel, Enright, Mackie, Kelly, Chapman, Johnson

They would’ve won 5 flags if not for Hawthorn

The North south rivalry is Intrastate - it actually goes further NW- North-South

However
Tassie’s will always unite and support a TAS team

We do that in cricket, basketball or any sport

What’s you’re actual point?
A Premierships won with a good team AND coaching panel
It’s not either/or
How ridiculous
Coach has a massive say in building his list ???
All teams need good players
It’s 101 Shyte???

Was Alan Joyce a good coach Teffers?

Good coaches with poor lists

Denis Pagan - Carlton
Malcom Blight - StK
Mick Malthouse - Carlton

Even coaching legends
Ron Barassi - Melbourne
John Kennedy - Kangaroos
Allan Jeans - Richmond
Robert Walls - Brisbane

Were made to look average only having an average list

Or even coaches that were great at clubs whilst list was good and healthy, but not great when list wasn’t as strong
Lyon at Freo - 13-17 excellent 18-20 poor
Hardwick - almost moved on at the end of 16 after 7 years - now a triple premiership coach (thanks Dusty!)
Clarkson at Hawthorn average early, then a super team then average again

Goodwin
Has had good and disappointing seasons
Was he a ‘good coach’ and then a ‘not good coach?’

Fact is
The biggest thing any coach needs to be successful is a good and healthy list

You have 10M
You need to be paying the right player the right amount
You need your biggest assets on the park

List management and recruiting is key to successful clubs

After that is
Game Plan

After that is the rest of the cultural garbage

Why do we like to think the coach is entirely responsible for results
- someone to blame - scapegoat
