Team v Eagles
Seb Ross and Hunter Clark will form part of St Kilda's starting line-up for Round 19, with the pair among six new faces named in the extended squad.
Clark comes in for just his fourth senior appearance of the year following facial surgery for a compound nasal fracture sustained three weeks ago, while Ross has been quickly recalled after being forced out last week as part of AFL Health & Safety Protocols.
Marcus Windhager has been named on the extended bench in similar circumstances to Ross, with newcomers Jarrod Lienert, Tom Campbell and Leo Connolly also selected in the 26-man roster.
Midfielders Zak Jones and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera have been omitted, joining injured ruckman Paddy Ryder (calf) on the sidelines.
St Kilda will consolidate its final line-up for Round 19 tomorrow at 5:00pm AEST.
IN: Campbell, Clark, Connolly, Lienert, Ross, Windhager
OUT: Jones (omitted), Ryder (injured), Wanganeen-Milera (omitted)

Re: Team v Eagles
Higgins and Butler named, are they taking the mickey.
Or is this the very last last last chance? I am warning you again, again, again...
Play well Sunday or hello Sandy: Byrnes, Wood or to use correct English sequencing: Wood Byrnes.

Yep, seems a bit of a cop out putting the word (omitted) next to NW(A)M's name. Does not quite match the talk to the media - Higgins & Hill should both be on the extended bench or be linked with the word omitted.

Re: Team v Eagles
Good to see Jones omitted, hope he sees out the year at Sandy. I think he's over rated.
Some others were lucky to still be there, Ratts might have been worried if he dropped all the non performers, he would end up with a Sandy equivalent team in Saints kit.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Team v Eagles
Jones has had a few games where he's been just awful in the first half and Ratten has lost patience. I'm guessing fatigue is setting in with NWM, so it's unsurprising he'd be given a break
Some on here saying it's a gutless/spineless selection this week, but really, what quality could have been brought in?
There's not much to play with, and it's actually reflects where this playing list is as. It's a pity Owens has missed so much football in the past 5 weeks, otherwise he'd be getting a game right now.

Re: Team v Eagles
This is not about "what quality could have been bought in", it's about what you are willing to accept as your standard. We have players playing poisonous, selfish, unaccountable and uninspiring football for 4 out of the last 5 weeks & we lump it on a kid??? NWM should have had "managed" next to his name, others should be reading the word "omitted" next to their names.

Re: Team v Eagles
Surprised NWM has played so many games this year
Huge potential but needs to get into the gym and build his fitness base / muscle mass / aerobic capacity
Jones dropped was always on the cards hopefully it will reawaken him

Re: Team v Eagles
We have an issue with our midfield and forward defensive game, and NWM and Jones went missing in that area last week, so those two will need to work on that. A couple of others were lucky to keep their places.

Re: Team v Eagles
I thought Kent was done n dusted nid-2021. 1
But they started to pick him again toward seasons end. And he had a few nice moments...so then I thought, they will persist - much go my chagrin!)
But he was nowhere this year, so i do not know what is going on with Butler...and Higgins.
I do not think Wood will be in their plans now, but they keep playing him.
Who knows. One of the few things of interest in this dismal patch we are now in.
The podcast boys said that the Ratts era now seems to be 'blending' into the Richo era nowadays - a continuous fog. from Richo to Ratts to Ratcho. The Ratcho Era!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Team v Eagles
Ratten talks a big game, but hasn’t got the guts to pull the trigger. How is Zac Jones the only one dropped? Yet Byrnes, Hill, Butler, Higgins, Billings survive. All f@rt, no sh!t.
Re: Team v Eagles
Right call on Jones but should have been joined by Higgins, Butler, Billings and perhaps Gresham.
How many final warnings are they going to get?

Dropping HIll is absurd..why?Kick-it-lace-out wrote: ↑Thu 21 Jul 2022 8:26pm Ratten talks a big game, but hasn’t got the guts to pull the trigger. How is Zac Jones the only one dropped? Yet Byrnes, Hill, Butler, Higgins, Billings survive. All f@rt, no sh!t.
Billings isn't THAT bad either..sure his potential is now questionable as a game breaker, match winner all that jazz..but as a classy and servicable role player - I rate him
Higgins has the tricks, but we can't expect these players to be consiustent..still rank above Butler.
Butler I rate with Jones, probably lower than Jones, yes, lower.
Byrnes is another disappointment. Major time disappointment, Stella Sandy player. Unless tagging comes back. He might just be a nice tagger. But tagging 'aint a thing, so...

Re: Team v Eagles
Maybe Jones is being made an example of, and Butler n Higgins have been warned they're next to go.
Wholesale changes for the sake of it, with no Sandy players ready to step in.

Re: Team v Eagles
We are still in the business of winning games and are still in the finals hunt and dropping 6 to 7 players won't get us the win we desperately need
Hopefully dropping at least 1 high profile player like Jones will give the others and the whole team the shot in the arm they need to wake up

Re: Team v Eagles
Ratten has now put them on notice that this is their last chance before they are put on their last chance to have one last chance.
Players also talked about it during the week and now they have worked out why they try in some games and not others we should be good from here.

Re: Team v Eagles
I suppose it is to strengthen the midfield Jones has made way for Ross and Windhager
Butler lucky to get a gig
Nwm very unlucky
