Training 6/7

Post: # 1965755Post longtimesaint »

Went to training today and it was a very enthusiastic session with a lot of energy.
Obvious absentees were Clark and Howard, wIth Dmac and Hannebery not appearing to train.
I got there a little late but did not see Gresham on the track.
One of the trainers collected his water bottle and took it in to the rooms so probably working in the gym.
On a positive note Bytel, Owens and Adams all trained.
FWIW Joyce trained in black and Highmore in white.
Everyone else looked fit and ready for a big game.

Clark, DMac and Geary worked with the rehab guy on the boundary. Interestingly Bytel trained in black and Crouch in white then Crouch swapped to black later. When they split into the black and white groups Bytel stood back and didn’t seem to know which group to join. He was looking fit though.

Black is normally the probables but most weeks 3 or 4 are usually selected from the whites.

Sounds like DMac is still not right. That’s a shame. I hope our season is still alive when he eventually can return.

Was there also. Bytel said he would probably be back for Sandy next week. His foot is feeling good but he is not quite ready. They limited his training time (kms) hence he was kicking on the boundary for a bit. Gresham was not feeling great (flu symptoms) trainer said they were waiting for the doc to clear him (hoping it is not Covid)
Some good work on the track but. They were definitely working on ball movement from defensive kick-ins, stoppages and centre bounces. Some good signs. Max still doesn’t seem to know when to present on a lead. Noticed a few times Hill would burst off half back and gesture for someone to lead at him. No one did! Not like the days of Winmar flying down the wing and Plugger knowing when and where to lead. Even Heatly was good at timing those leads! Plenty to work on for Max!

Sounds like we need a better forward coach

It would be interesting to know what surgery he has had done on the nose.

He’s had a nasty run in the last two years with some significant facial injuries.

Great that the young fella is back out there running already.

I wonder what the return plan will be for Hunter.
Does he come back in a 3-4 of weeks as would be normal or do they give him additional time?

Hopefully he is ok mentally as he’s been through the ringer so to speak.

The best players ensure forwards don't need to lead, they just kick it where only the forward can get it.

Hopefully his coaches can get him protecting himself more in contests? Courage is one thing and he has had some tough luck, but it would be nice to see him get an injury free run. His injuries havent helped, but I still maintain he is no where near having an AFL ready physique or fitness levels. Someone needs to get hold of him in the off season, and get his body and fitness to professional levels.

His run in with Butler last week was a freak accident, not sure much can be done to avoid that!

True but being the last 1/4 fatigue contributed a little...

That’s true but still nice watching Buddy coming straight out to a kicker
Plugger never needed a kicker to tell him he has to move his legs
