St Kilda v Fremantle
St Kilda vs Fremantle
Saints are coming off a sprightly win at the hands of Carlton, meanwhile Freo had a close encounter with Port after the power came back in the last quarter for almost 40 points down.
Outs for the Saints will be Howard and Clark.
It may be tough with Freo at full strength, but their style of play is being slow off half back which may also play into St Kilda's hands. With also a 6 day turnaround and a flight from Perth, it may be a tough trip for the purple anchors.
Thoughts?

Re: St Kilda v Fremantle
I think we have the wood on Freo - especially over here - so I think we'll win.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Great opportunity to keep in the finals hunt…Freo got a bit of a touch up at Marvel by Carlton recently.
Highmore into the 22 and maybe Owens..McKenzie doubtfull as calf injuries are tricky.

Depends if we play like we did against Carlton or how we did against Essendon/Sydney.
It's all in our control, not sure how much more motivation they need?

Which St KIlda is gonna turn up.?..that is the question.
The concept of 'season on the line' seems to mean little.
The concept of 'Spud's game', possibly even 'Shane Grambeau's game' , doesn't seem to matter to them either.
It's internal. To them as as individuals and team mates.
Anyone's guess.

And that goes for the dockers as well
They've played some real shite games this year .
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the good saints front
The bad dockers front
And the umpires look after the home team .

Re: St Kilda v Fremantle
If Tabener misses that will reduce their tall forwards. I said after last weeks game to keep Highmore in, but I think we will need Joyce to match up on Lobb. Like all games though it will be won through the midfield, if our mids can get on top we will get the edge.
If we DMac back he will be a big inclusion for us!
I hope like the first half last week the Saints continue to take the game on and play an up tempo quicker game. Plus have our forwards leading up at the ball separating their defenders again. If we can maintain that we will get on top.

Re: St Kilda v Fremantle
I think 1 on 1 Lobb will out mark any defender we currently have but maybe if Ratten allows a Highmore type to just roam and be a 2nd flyer against Lobb may help.
Highmore seems to read the play and ball magnificently for a younger player. So should be utilised as a intercept marker.
My ideal Ins/outs
Ins: DMac, Highmore, Lienert,
Outs: Hunter, Howard, Wood

Swap Lienert for Joyce and I think you are on the money.Sainter_Boy wrote: ↑Wed 06 Jul 2022 11:28am I think 1 on 1 Lobb will out mark any defender we currently have but maybe if Ratten allows a Highmore type to just roam and be a 2nd flyer against Lobb may help.

Just so important for our midfield to come to this game switched on and get first use- also need to bring their best defensive game.

Thought Wood helped change the look of our structure for the better.

Re: St Kilda v Fremantle
Freo have won three tight games with the opposition coming home over them, which might flatter their ladder position.
At the same time they were the first team to beat Melbourne for a long time.
Still don't get what makes them a top four side in regard to personnel.
Obviously they have a very good coach and several A graders.
Be a test for us. We should win. If we don't we know where stand i.e. probably not up to being finalists.
But here is my quandary, I think our players as a collective are better than Freo's, however we have had injuries to crucial cogs at the worst times making it hard to build positive momentum, and I am biased.
However I don't see Freo having the shockers we put in for no apparent reason, when it counts. They have won the tight ones - except against us.
I think Ratts is good but am starting to wonder how good in terms of getting consistent performance that eliminates the Sydney/Port/Essendon white flag efforts.
Those rushing to renew Ratts might well pause until they know why we were so bad against Sydney then great against Carlton. Is the side inherently one with a split personality? If so I guess no coach can eliminate the absolute shockers like Scott has done with Geelong (not suggesting Cat's have a split personality to go with their huge home ground advantage), they seem just totally professional on game days, win or lose.
Does the lack of tall defenders and another tall forward make us particularly vulnerable to certain game styles?

Good summation yorkeys
Key points our inconsistency and the ability of our coach to counteract that
I doubt he can

Perth media- MMM Perth, Ch 7 Perth, are both saying Taberner has been training well after the hammy concern, and should play against us.
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.
