They won’t select Highmore because our backline are going so well apparently
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

I like Higmore, 30+ and intercept marks on a string but didn't his last opponent kick 5.2?

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
I was surprised Battle was chosen as the KPP CHB this year, but what do you think now?
He certainly drops back and takes a lot of marks.
Just don’t wanna criticize him but, is our defense really that good? After that run of wins, it was lauded in the press.
Watching the Essendon game?
Watching us kick out from behinds is often nerve wracking.
Carlton’s forwards will test the set-up again. Curnow played on Battle pre-season. Curnow was rusty and had hardly played. He took four shots at goal having out pointed Battle. He missed all four. To be fair, he had to run to far and wide places sometimes.
How players like Lienert and Highmore can’t fit in suggests that we might want to look at being more flexible.
Can the interchange have slots for defenders? Or is that lost opportunity coast?
Players like Hunter, NWM, and Paton are obviously talented, but we know they are being played at less than 100% …They are being ‘Runi in’ like a new or re-conditioned engine.
But we are in a race!
Players like Windy and Sharman look fully formed but not optimally tuned.
I think we have to think of Friday as a grand Final selection wise.
No more ‘development games’.

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
That’s irrelevant. He didn’t play on Saturday night so people didn’t get a chance to get angry with him so he’s guaranteed to be better.
The only player permitted to have a crap game in seniors and still have everyone demand he be selected is Sharman.

He’s our best intercept mark.
Park him forward and tell him his job is to intercept the bombs from our midfield.
Seriously this is a joke, they are refusing to promote based on form.

Lack of intercept markers at the Bulldogs last night. Expect Highmore at the Western Oval next year. Plp tell me Webster is better..better hands, ground skills whatever… don’t know.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Thu 30 Jun 2022 8:42pmNo selection integrity.Sainternist wrote: ↑Thu 30 Jun 2022 7:56pm Highmore named as an emergency

Webster did a few horrible tunovers in the backline last week- he gives me the impression of being a nice penetrating kick, but hitting the right targets seems to be an issueshanegrambeau wrote: ↑Fri 01 Jul 2022 9:52amLack of intercept markers at the Bulldogs last night. Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
Defence was our strong point ... but, the sheer number of inside 50's our underwhelming (and hence overwhelmed) midfield is allowing past, it's becoming too much to deal with and it's playing on the psyche of some of our defenders, and is really affecting their confidence.
Highmore would have been handy (even as a forward marking option as DB Cooper mentioned), I would have thought - but the real problem is our midfield.

Hopefully Highmore has now introduced himself to Boris and he gets a fair go.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He was absolutely superb
Came in already switched on and was taking marks from the off-set
Worked hard and got to contests.
Needs to stay in

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
Love having a player like Tommy in the team. Hope he get's more opportunities. Well done to the midfield for doing all they could to prevent clean delivery to the Carlton forwards
Just on another subject...Hope they don't treat Highmore like Long (or like Ryder). Both would have been crucified for that bump on Saad
...and Michael Christian would be looking at his little chart of criteria to rub him out for a couple
That's how the Match review officer somehow justifies his position and the AFL pretend they are protecting the head. By screwing St Kilda!

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
Highmore came on early in third quarter and yet the AFL stats show him with 51% game time.

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
That was actually Mason Wood. And I reckon he'll be fine. Saad played the rest of the game and it was incidental contact.Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 02 Jul 2022 3:26am Love having a player like Tommy in the team. Hope he get's more opportunities. Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
game time is measured by running minutes, not time off, ie not all quarters are equal length. Assume that Hunter being stretchered off and the delay in game affected that.

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
Highmore went quite well, and certainly looks AFL standard: far more so than the likes of Byrnes and Sharman.
However, we need to find a spot for him. The dilemma is that Battle is potentially a top player, and the best position for him appears to be CHB: we certainly don't want to see him regularly playing on the opposition full forward as he was last night: he isn't tall enough and I'm not sure he's quick enough either.
Highmore too looks to be best playing as a CHB. If we are to have both him and Battle in the side, we most likely will need to move one of them into a sub-optimal role and/or muck around with the backline structure to accommodate them both. It's certainly worth experimenting with roles for Highmore: either at Sandy or against Hawthorn or WCE at AFL level. But it's not a good idea in big games IMO.
Assuming Howard is out for a while, the obvious option is to promote Joyce and send Highmore back to Sandy. If that happens next game, I won't be logging into SS next Thursday night, that's for sure!
But no club needs two CHBs. And you can't keep someone as good as Highmore looks to be as a perennial backup. So a realistic scenario is that we might have to let him go at the end of the year. Again, I won't be logging into SS for a while after that decision is made.

Highmore was very good. Composed under pressure, made quick decisions and used it well. Thank god we had him as the sub to come on when Howard got injured rather than a Byrnes type. Tom definitely gets a full game next week.

We might be a bit small but hopefully that’s balanced by his ability to intercept

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
My thoughts on Highmore
He is a player - way too good for VFL!
But DON’T play him as an undersized tall - play him as a oversized medium (hybrid) or even as a a small medium.
Then he can use his marking as a weapon either to outpoint his opponent or lay off… play him exactly like Tom Stewart - who plays on the weakest forward / regardless of size - and just sags off them.
A part of my premiership building backline
Wilkie - Howard - Paton
Coffield - Battle - Sinclair
Seventh - Highmore

Re: FFS, Tom Highmore must be selected !!
That’s a backline in 3 to 4 years time
Jimmy is a dead certainty atm but is 29. I reckon he’s got 2 years left as a best 22 player.
Paton needs to overtake him and get back to 2020 form
As does Coffield
My future forward line is
Billings - King - Windhager
DeGoey - Membrey - Higgins
My future Centre Line
Marshall - Steele - Gresham
NWM - Bytel - Clark
Spares
Long - McKenzie - Owens - Heath - Byrnes
Plus about 5 or 6 draftees
Gone
Ross, Crouch, Jones, Geary, Webster, Wood, Hannebery, Hill, Ryder, Sharman, Allison, Connolly, Adams, Peris
Players who can take big steps
Coffield
Clark
King
Bytel
Owens
Windhager
Heath
Byrnes
Highmore
Paton
That side with a couple more FRDPs will contend top 4 imo
