Max King
His body language and effort was disgraceful vs Sydney
In a word
Sooked
I reckon there were contests where he simply gave up
He dropped the first two marks he went for (sodas) then missed everything when he had a shot
After that he didn’t try or give 100% effort - not even close
That is damning criticism- but warranted
Young?!
He is 22yo and meant to be a high draft and potential superstar?
Here’s what our 3 best young key forwards did at 22yo
Nick Reiwoldt 2004
All Australian, Best And Fairest, AFLPA MVP, 256 marks
Stewart Loewe 1990
All Australian, Best and Fairest
Tony Lockett 1987 (21yo)
Brownlow Medal, Coleman Medal (117 goals), Best and Fairest
If he wants to be a ‘generational’ forward. Efforts like That DON’T happen!!!!

Re: Max King
At the start of those seasons Plugger had played 71 games, Loewe 73, Roo 50, and King 38.
The others also had another 1-2 seasons more at the highest level than King, and all time greats giving them the ball!
To be fair, I’d be p*ssed having to play in that forward line week after week too!
I’d be more worried about a leader/captain of our club doing the same/worse.

Re: Max King
So you are comparing him to Plugger ... probably the greatest player of all time and Reiwoldt and Loewe who don't even play King's position and probably the 2 greatest marks of all time ...... seems pretty fair to me ...... no pressure MaxB.M wrote: ↑Mon 27 Jun 2022 9:11pm His body language and effort was disgraceful vs Sydney

Re: Max King
King has got issues, physically he ticks all the boxes, is mental fragility something he can overcome. It's a concern at how easy and quickly he disintegrates into a liability, we currently don't have an on field leader in the forward line.

isn't that interesting, I didn't' even think of Members as being a forward. Clearly is, plus other things.

Re: Max King
Doesn’t matter whether it’s 1st, 10th, 50th, 100th or 300th game
That sort of effort and carry on is damning
Footy is a great judge of character
When the going gets tough, the tough get going… and the weak give up!
He has all the attributes below the shoulders - but the greats have it between the ears and in their chest!
And it’s innate - it’s not learned

Re: Max King
Membrey has kicked 200+ goals
I only think of him as a forward
Very good player - effort never in question

Re: Max King
So BM do we trade him while he still has currency ? Trade Max to North for pick 1 & their second rounder ?

The club should allow him to be mentored by Matthew Lloyd.

Re: Max King
IMO the only player on our list that has an ability to transform a game . Maybe he does need to HTFU but every club in the AFL would give their first born to have him .We are lucky that we actually got a pick right for change but if we keep up the s-it delivery & sh-t f-cking game plan who could blame him for walking when his contract is up .

Re: Max King
What I do find strange about Max is that after a win when the team is singing the song he really doesn't sing ..... he just mouths the words without any show of natural jubilation or overwhelming elation
Considering he was a diehard Saints growing up I do find this quite peculiar
That said maybe he is just a quiet guy or has trouble expressing joy and happiness in times of triumph

Re: Max King
GT didn’t miss him on twitter. Basically said exactly what BM has said. Reckons Saints have set him up to fail because he’s not being made accountable for his poor attitude.
All this Winx rubbish has to stop. He’s a young bloke who has some amazing athletic attributes but also some CLEAR deficiencies in his game. He needs to be accountable like everyone else. That means tackling, chasing and pressuring opposition.

Re: Max King
I’ll tell you now
Naughton does not drop either of those uncontested dollies
If he’s going to play as a power forward
Get a fkn AFL body, puff his fkn chest out and act like a peacock
ATM he looks like a deer in headlights!!!
Grow a set

They let the players call him Winx.
Ryder tweeted a selfie with Max, captioned 'I can tell my kids one day, that I played with the GOAT'
Club released a King T-Shirt with him wearing a crown.
Stop with the Hero Worship until he's actually paid his bloody dues and won a Coleman or been a consistent player with less sulking and more praiseworthy performances
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Re: Max King
Key forwards are the 100m sprinters of the AFL world
The ‘money men’
They need to be Alpha Males
Body language should be that of some who thinks they are better than the opposition and they want the responsibility of winning the game.
King looks like a confidence player
Great key forwards never lacked for confidence

Re: Max King
King is never going to be the peacock in the goal square.
He needs to work out his demons. Expectations seem to weigh him down drastically.
I have a huge concern on his work rate. It is just not there. King had a front row seat to the Buddy Show on the weekend (well in the first half). Buddys work rate was massive. King bearly left the goal square under 10's style waiting for the ball on a platter. King did get up the ground later in the game (probably just to warm himself up a little).

Re: Max King
If it was my call I would have King find some form as 1st or 2nd ruck (Marshall at CHF) because key forward is one, if not the, most difficult positions to master in the AFL.
Having 2 or more defenders trying, and mostly succeeding, to stop him, combined with really poor delivery into attack, must be really demoralising, so little wonder Max is seriously out of touch.
Playing King in the ruck allows him to build confidence in his abilities which in turn should set him up to become the match winner he is expected to become.
