FA means he costs nothing in terms of picks but the fools errand is a long term high value contract for a player that has both off-field issues and seems not to be at peak fitness most of the time these days.

IF we were interested… 3 years with a clause heavy contract that has an option to extend at the end if the performance indicators are met is IMO the best option on the table.
His response to such a contract would give a good indication of where his head is at.

I know Michael Gardiner for example, was fully aware and owned his perception of being a long shot/damaged goods, with the onus on him to prove his worth. He took the deal and set about proving everyone wrong, which he did.

Should DeGoey even think he deserves what’s on the table?

An issue that a few have pointed out… he’s not exactly been producing at the level that money would dictate. Suffice it to say that Collingwood are pbly disappointed in his last 2-3 years as a whole

I think the last line is the key, he is not worth the money.
I think Collingwood would love to see the back of him and the problems and save the cash.
I would not touch him with a barge pole is his salary is anywhere North of $500K per annum.
We pay Crouch, I think $600K, he has performed at a far higher level than De Goey over the last few years, he just isn't flashy.

Collingwood are withdrawing their offer and don’t want him because of his off-field antics and influence… but they’re also happy for him to play out the year in the seniors hope he contributes to pushing them into a finals campaign.

Seems to me that these things are mutually exclusive and they’re talking out of both sides of their mouth so to speak.
