Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
Apparently, in primary school, he kissed a girl and made her cry, then he was caught masturbating by his mum at 13 and began wagging school at 14 but only on days when there was no sport, footy matches or it looked like raining at lunch time.
Seriously though, put all that too the side and imagine if we retired Hanners, took the best player available at our first pick and replaced Kent with De Goey and Geary with Amon.
No brainer.

Would you rather a team of "good" blokes or a premiership?

Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
A big bag of trouble with inconsistent output.
Not what we need at that price.
Can't play consistent midfield because he's never fit enough.

Compare De Goeys 2022 stats with Crouch
https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_ ... 2=S&type=A
Worth 4 or 5 million?

And that rhymes with P... and that stands for Premiership!
He's not real trouble, he's a St Kevin's kid with shyt sleeve tattoos who enjoys a nightclub (in the age of mobile phone cameras).
We are currently oh so close but oh so far from being genuine contenders... and chasms can't usually be jumped in two leaps.
Sell him on the 'fresh start', on realising his potential, on showing all the doubters, put all the necessary caveats in his contract, get the club and players around him, and he'd be a perfect fit.
It's a golden opportunity.

Shows a lot of people don’t watch much footy on this forum. De gooey will be nothing more than a fringe player on our list and has achieved very little in his career. If we make this deal we bury our club even further in to mediocrity

The hysteria around de gooey is ridiculous. The Same people calling for billings to leave are salivating at the thought of de gooey signing, when really their similar players.Templar wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jun 2022 11:19am Jordan De Goey current 2022 AFL player ranking:

Also imagine how well de gooey will mix with our current team culture which is already rampant with drug use and partying. Great mix.Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jun 2022 12:44pm Shows a lot of people don’t watch much footy on this forum. I cant comment on whether de goey would be a good recruit or not because i dont watch the filth play however i ask how is this a culture problem; men in their 20's rating women seriously how is that even a story and no one has asked why these two men are topless on a bed together...happy feet wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jun 2022 8:44am Here’s the culture he is a part of. Yeah, we said that about Lovett as well, he doesn't win us a premiership, if he was that good, why hasn't he done it for Collingwood?markp wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jun 2022 11:57amAnd that rhymes with P... and that stands for Premiership!

He takes no responsibility for his actions and is doing the usual cop out by blaming the media for his stupidity.

Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
Given that De Goey is such a polarising figure I'm not sure he will be the answer to our prayers. Most definitely, St Kilda badly needs to bring in an experienced, proven midfield gun. He certainly attracts a lot of media attention, but mainly for the wrong reasons, so I would be very surprised if the club is going to bid for his services if Collingwood show him the door at the end of the year.
We should remember that neither Hannebery nor Hill, both big name players and paid a motza, and in the latter's case a high trade price, have both failed to deliver on their promise. Big name recruits don't come with a money back guarantee, the club gets stuck with them if they don't work out and for that reason alone I don't think De Goey is worth the gamble.
I would much rather see the club grab hold of Tim Taranto who is in his final year on contract with GWS, an absolute gun without any personal baggage, and rely on some of the up and coming young blokes, Wanganeen-Milera, Windhager and Owens to develop into strong mids.

You'd want some hefty performance and off field clauses in that contract

Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
The varying results & vagaries of the deals, form, costs and otherwise of Lovett, Carlisle, Hannebery & Hill should not have any impact on this decision.
If we are now too scared to improve our list because we doubt our abilities to negotiate and handle different players then let's just put a flag in position 11 on the ladder & look forward to celebrating those dizzy years we climb to 10th, 9th or god forbid 8th.

He would cost us far more than $800K in the long run. He’ll drag the club down to Davey Jones’ locker!
Does the club really need a loose cannon like De Goey?

Re: De Goey 5 year deal 800 a year.!!
Yes I do?
He’s a match winner
He’s clearly not a Crouch, Ross, Steele type consistent ball winning hard working mid - he’s a bang for buck, X Factor forward mid (who we should’ve drafted in Petracca!)
He won’t average 25+ Like Crouch
He won’t average 1.5 goals like Membrey
But every few games he will break a game open and dominate
If we could get him as a FA then absolutely
Missing piece of the puzzle imo
His pairing with Gresh in a forward/mid rotation- awesome imo
Throw DeGoey and Steele and Crouch into a midfield
With Back Up from m Ross, Jones, Gresham, Clark
Coffield back
We are in it up to our nuts

Just out of interest as someone who barely follows the media…
What did DeGoey do in Bali that was so terrible? I saw footage of him partying in a club.
Was he eating a person in the background or something?
