Ratten is head coach of a developing list which still has a few holes so unless the wheels fall off completely, he should get some slack.
This list is not Collingwood developing let’s be realistic the club came out and said “window open”
Think he must play finals
Think he should win one

We basically had one rotation for the last qtr and could have hit the front with 10 min left , and people here bagging Ratten and selectors.

Football isn't always pretty where ball moves freely and forwards hit on chest lace out.
Had we had full rotations and lost like that then perhaps some questions asked - perhaps.
I am sure coaches dont train to have the ball kicked high 3-1 to king but a thing called pressure , another called poise and a third called presence effect this. Pressure opposition put on you, poise to withstand that and the pressence of King ( Like Roo and even Plugger before him) often lead to the players not coach making the bomb decision.

I hate losing as much as anyone but some perspective of where we are at as a group, who we played and circumstances presented to us. i would have taken 8-4 after 12 games before the seaosn started with Steele out for 3 weeks so far
relax people Even Melbourne have lost games!
Cmon rotations hurt late but don’t pretend they don’t kick straight and we aren’t in trouble
We are not a top 4 sude
We’ll get some finals experience this year great
But I’m interested in what we actually do to bridge the gap and be genuine flag threats
Why rush to sign a coach now??
you have actually made my point for me. I am saying we lost to a top 4 side with some bad luck with injuries, yet were more than competitive and people need to chill. You have said we aren't a top 4 side so therefore Brisbane should beat us. Therefore it follows the carry on and questioning of coach is an over reaction ( my point) as we weren't expected to win anyway.
that said;
Brisbane have been top 4 side for multiple years now, it doesn't just happen it take time.
What do we need IMO
-time - get games into players who are the future ( when they earn it)- Owens, Windy, NWM, Clark, Coffield, King, Paton, . You build to a top 4 team
- Stability - the argument of move Ratten on kills this. Clearly he can coach 2020 & 2022 shows this. 2021 dropped ball with a terrible pre season and key injuries . This club has a 100 year history of poor knee jerk decisions.
- Tactical recruitment for need. Identify areas requiring support and recruit accordingly.

I feel more comfortable signing Ratten now than i did with richo mid season, based on the demographic of the side.
What do we need - stability???
We had stability under Richo did that get us near it????
Just delusional
You need to turn over and weed out mediocre players
Brett Ratten ability to get this side to compete against quality opponents (like Freo are now doing) will be there for all to see at seasons end)
No need for silly knee jerk reactions for the sake of “stability”
If we dont make finals this year OR get smashed week 1 and bundled out straight sets are you happy for 3 more years of stability with no regard of what is available in the market????
Madness.
Did you honestly expect to be 8-3 at the break? I know i didn't. This side is playing better than expected and just like when teams lose its the coaches fault surely he has to get credit for the wins too.
I am not saying re sign him an a hurry however if those in better positions than us feel it is the correct move then yes certainty and stability - with the correct people is important.
Compete against quality opponents - Beat Freo, Beat Geelong, lost to a flying Melbourne and competed against Brisbane. I say so far he has ticked that box you would have to concede?

"... the club came out and said “window open”
technically ... i think it was (paraphrasing)

we feel we are ahead of ourselves this year (22)
but our window opens in 23

(dunno re accurate accuracy .. i'd have to find that interview 'n re- listen)

though , it certainly is an interesting discussion

I think our on field recruiting this year is mire important than off field.
We go after players we need.

Their midfield got on top
They lock straight early we are 3/4 down
They were class above when it mattered
Midfield needs an injection of class - Ratten has to get creative not return to the same old mids he needs to bring in others eg sinclsir etc rotate through
Don’t agree, still can’t recall a time in recent Afl History a team has been down to one rotation in a game of footy. Monumental effort to not get beaten by 60 points.

Down to one rotation??

Three injured

Sub activated

3 + 1 = 2

We had 2 on the bench, but hey it a good excuse if you don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story

I think Wood had screwed his ankle, but then got it jabbed, and came back on, although had been playing shyte, so it's more like....

3+1-(1 x 0.5 x 0.45) = ?

I don't know what that comes to, but who gives a fk?

For a period of time in the last quarter we had 4 injured- Wood was off receiving treatment.
He eventually came back on but appeared hampered.
Whilst he was off we were down to 1 fit player on the bench

It’s not even true… how’s that reality

The reality was we had Leinert activated from halfway through the third

We still had 18 on the ground at all times

Truth is, we were lucky Brisbane didn’t kick straight

We had 1 available player on the bench at a stage of the last quarter.
Don't move the goal posts because you made another grandios statement, calling someone else out, when you were wrong yourself.

How long were we down to one rotation?
5 minutes?

Which may have been the length of time of a rotation

I remember Wood making mistakes in the last quarter? He was definitely on the ground.

Head out of my arse

All you do is make pathetic excuses for ineptness

We were either down to one rotation or we weren't. Make up your f****** mind. And yes, get your head out of your arse. I didn't make any excuses, you've got the wrong bloke. I dont do the sky is falling commentary. We lost. Just move on. You're just dribbling your sanctimonious s***, as usual. When we miss shots, we are inept, when Brisbane do it, we are lucky. Keep them coming BM, you're on a roll.

Look, we played poorly, no doubt.

Not helped by being exhausted with 4 mid rotations going down one after the other.

No excuses but the hopes of a revival were minimal without DMac and Jones' run & Owens stoppage work

Not sure you understand the medi sub

We were obviously down three

We activated the sub

Wood came back on

We had two on the bench

Not ideal, but not the reason we lost

Unless you’re looking for excuses

We were ahead at half time. We kept losing players from the third until Wood came back on.

Owens, McKenzie, Jones and Wood who feature regularly in rotations when playing, were all off the ground for a part of the last quarter.

That's 22-4=18 plus the sub = 19. So, for a big chunk of the last half, we had 25-50% of our rotations affected. Running players left the ground and weren't always replaced by running players.

Players were forced to play in unfamiliar positions and we were struggling to keep our press set up neat. The Brisbane runners turned it up a notch and we couldn't go with them.

In the second half of a relatively low scoring game, with the ball moving quickly from end to end, that is a big ask to overcome.

Not impossible and certainly not above the capabilities of a top 4 club but a big ask against a top 4 team.

Those aren't excuses, they are a reality of what happened, it's impossible to prepare for and difficult to stop.

Sounds like fkn excuses

Jones subbed off a 3 qtr time

Wood off for 5-10 mins

We were 1 down in the third quarter

2 down in the last

3 down for a part of the last

2 down for the majority of the last

Brisbane had a fk load more i50s and scoring shots
Margin flattered us

While you think my recall may be excuses, yours are just fantasy.

Jones subbed off a 3 qtr time
Jones wasn't subbed. The sub came on after half time for Owens.

Mackenzie went down in the first few minutes of the 3rd. Your memory of convenience is getting the better of you.

So given that Lienert is not a midfielder and McKenzie and Owens are, our midfield rotations were at 50% and we were still resting Marshall and/or Paddy in stages but prolonging their time forward. Rotations were shorter and more often after half time, which sort of f**** up your planned structures.

Wood off for 5-10 mins
Gee that's makes it easier does it?

Brisbane out ran us in the second half. If you can't work out why, using the injuries and our impressive fitness and finishes all year, as a starting point, then I probably can't convince you.

I'm getting tired of arguing with a bloke that thinks 3+1=2, states his selective memory as fact and forgets everything he knows about football when it doesn't suit his bulls***, arrogant, smartass statements.
