Brett Ratten - High Praise from David Parkin

Post: # 1958026Post cps »

Hi All,

I listened to this interview with David Parkin recently:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPBDnHZMrR0&t=30s

At 17.12 he mentions our current coach and how highly he rates him.

I thought people here might be interested.

Cheers!

Whytf did Riewoldt say what he said on Fox footy?
I don't think Ratten thinks much if him!

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Apparently something to the effect we should consider if Clarkson is available.
Might not be accurate though because it was written in pencil

A common theme it seems. Idiots with pencils. Ever since moving into the media Nick has become less intelligent. I find him hard to watch at times. I heard he also voted with a pencil.....

Overreaction re roo. Nothing wrong with a conversation, never know what comes of it. For all we know he'd love to get involved in some other capacity but you never know if you don't ask.

No harm in asking the question . IMO Ratt's is doing a good job but the job isn't done yet . We should make the 8 & I think we will but if we don't then that's where things change . IMO we should not resign Ratt's until the end of the season a lot of water to under the bridge in the next 11 games . Watch this space

As soon as a president says that type of rhetoric the coach doesn't last long . I hope he's true to his word

St.Kilda is just a decoy for Clarkson and the AFL.
Dew is the one with the star studded list of early draft picks that Clarkson can build around. He will want a big fat 5 year deal. One that would decimate our soft cap and the work we have done to strengthen our football department. We have enough Clarkson intel.
Ratten will be sealed next week when we storm home against Brisbane.

Yes but why does he need to discuss this in the media. Why not have a quiet word to the club..... Seems more interested in creating a stir.

Well it’s just something he’s done in his role as a media commentator

Pbly highlights just how meaningless the comments were and pointless the subsequent overreaction has been

I'm finding myself squirming in my seat more and more while watching Roo in his media role. He comes across as a blonde version of Carey at times, all jock and not much strap.

His suggestion regarding Clarko replacing Ratts was just as a result of his gums flapping mindlessly while the brain was searching for a gear.

I loved Rooey as a player but I'm also finding myself squirming when I see him on tv. Probably like hawks supporters feel about Derm. I guess this highlights the importance of players having a plan for their lives after football (assuming they don't want to coach). If you don't have a plan your best hope is to be another media clown.

I knew Ratts in the early 2000's. He was a good client before he went back to coaching. My business partner was a blues supporter and always got chatting to him. Ratts loved it. Loves his footy. Whenever he came into our shop a little group would form around him to listen and chat. He was a pleasure to deal with and always had integrity, it was impossible not like like him. Not saying I know too much about his footy brain (although David Parkin says its amazing) but he certainly knows how to get people up and about!

Clarkson already has his Flags. Ratten still needs to get his. This is a key driver. We are going alright - the proof will be in our results in finals this year.

I met him once - when he was coach of Carlton. It was outisde the MCG at a coffee van. I was walking past the G, it was during the finals, in the middle of a quarter, and nobody else was around. Carlton weren't playing that day, but they had won the day before and would be versing the victor of the finals match being played.
I spoke with him about checking out the competition, told him I was a St Kilda supporter, and didn't expect to like him because of the heated rivalry with Carlton, in which he played a major role after Sammy Hammil defected to us in the early 2000s. But I did like him, he was a really good guy actually,

Re roo in the media
I agree with much of the above

When he first started out he was good but the more relaxed he has become in front of the camera more I am going off him

He needs to pull his head in a bit.
Now Browny I like. He doesn’t try to be the big star same with dal santo

I agree with the comments in relation to Roo but I also think that Brown is a boofhead. Likable but still a boofhead
