Re: Ratts contract to be extended
You do wonder how much power the St Kilda hierarchy have in the decision process. Ostensibly*, ya think the club is 100% at the helm, in the cockpit, on the controls…(*wanted to try that word..probably wrong) , but blink and see rails and the train following the tracks, around the curve, and on we go. And you wonder that all those processes that are linked up and inexorably bound in co-dependence, and you figure that …”yeah, typical…here we go….Richo gets renewed, Kent gets renewed, DMac gets renewed, Ratts gets renewed, cos that’s the way it goes”…
The Saints don’t have control of their destiny…or do they?
That’s why a Grant Thomas was so powerful.
Bull in a China shop.
Spanner in the works.
When he was appointed, the presss went bonkers.
It was like Putin invading teh Ukraine.

LOL - more about Teflon calling Grant a Tator when clearly he was just a D!ck (at times)
Although I must say - on field I liked his tactics

Re: Ratts contract to be extended
You'd think the club is endorsing the development, coaching, training schedules and game plan he is delivering. Id expect he won't be the only coach they are happy with, given the current outcomes.
It seems now the players have bought in, we square the coaches contract up so we can focus on the list and the 19 players who are out of contract at years end.

Re: Ratts contract to be extended
If we are going to start negotiations with free agents, we should probably tidy all these contracts up and set some priorities and plans in place.

What about Malthouse at West Coast? Coached the dogs in the 80's without a flag.Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 27 May 2022 9:43amWasn’t sure what you meant so I just checked and yeah…Premiership winning Carlton Coach in 1987 was Robert WallsDevilhead wrote: ↑Fri 27 May 2022 9:20am Interesting point ...... how many recycled non-winning premiership senior coaches with their first team have ever gone on to coach a Premiership at their new team?
Robert Walls (1987 with Carlton) coached Fitzroy before Carlton and never won a premiership with them
Not many it seems ..... not saying it can't happen again of course but history seems against Ratten

If Fitzroy had as much money as other VFL clubs, who knows…Walls may have won a flag there too. They were my second favourite team. So many of my favourite footy players from the 80’s played with the Roy Boys. I suppose I needed to follow a team that could at least make finals.

Re: Ratts contract to be extended
I think it’s a little premature, let’s see what happens in the finals ( providing we don’t stuff up completely)
I would wait at least until the end of the season
He is definitely growing as a coach he seems to have good support around him

Re: Ratts contract to be extended
Seriously, you go and interview De Goey and his managers asks, who is coach and our answer is, we don't know, Ratts is looking good bit we are holding out for Clarko, some reporters and fans reckon we can get him.supersaints2 wrote: ↑Sat 28 May 2022 1:20pm I think it’s a little premature, let’s see what happens in the finals ( providing we don’t stuff up completely)

If we are talking extension with Ratten, Clarko isn't coming. Maybe some other untried coach might come along. Maybe Ratten has interest elsewhere.
From here, it's up to the players.

Re: Ratts contract to be extended
Yep with current injury list yes I would
Sides done well
Still to play 4 quarters
Back half this season will tell us plenty
Ball movement into forward 50 still an issue against sides that don’t let us run n gun
Has improved defence which is great
Unearthed some talent via gags
But it’s a big leap from top 8
To genuine top 4 contender
I don’t think we have a flag winning 22 just yet btw
Ratts makes finals, wins one or gets us to top 4 at seasons end he’s earnt extension is my view
No need to jump now

Re: Ratts contract to be extended
We have more than a flag winning 22, but maybe not this year. How the f*** are we going to fit Steele, Billings, Clark, Higgins and Butler back into that side,
Others hopeful of getting a game soon are Campbell, Highmore, Lienert, Byrnes and Bytel.
Connolly and maybe even Hanners , if eventually fit.
Riches we have never had in such abundance even in 2009 and 2010 when our bottom 4 to 6 were frankly, s***.
Teah, Rayys isn't going anywhere...thankfully.
Clarkson can f*** off to Tasmania or Queensland for all I care.

This thread needs bumping
As dome of us said… premature contract extension. We could go into free fall….
And repeat the Richo saga!
We haven't put 4 quarters together once this season and until we can do a reasonable number of games , I’m not yet convinced he is the man for the holy grail
