Changes for this week
In Marshall, Billings
Out Campbell Windy
Butler stays in, he has a good record at the MCG and I don’t believe he has been putrid
Byrnes unlucky
Jones didn’t look quite ready from the bits of the VFL I saw
Longshot and don’t deride but #14 is a chance in next couple of weeks to claim a spot

Intercepting talls will be real handy against the Dees, Highmmore might have earned his opportunity ahead of Gears possibly.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Mon 02 May 2022 4:42pm In Marshall, Billings

Re: Changes for this week
Highmore stood out yesterday - played a good game and would have to be close.
Billings needs another run around with Sandy - he played ok without doing anything great. Looked completely gassed a few time when he ran to the bench. He did miss 2 set shots from about 30 so would be right at home in the main game.
Roma was there and walking unhindered....straight back in for TC
Not sure why you'd drop Windy??

Re: Changes for this week
Highmore should be in the seniors - not sure why he’s not
He dominates VFL
Byrnes would come in for Butler - from what I saw on the weekend
JB is an automatic
I’d bring in Jones too
And Marshall
Out
Campbell
Windhager
Butler
Leinert
Sub

Re: Changes for this week
Fair enough.
Not sure if Jones is AFL fit as yet but he is a leader. The commentators remarked yesterday that he was very vocal and barking instructions to his young team mates.

Re: Changes for this week
Jones has had quite a few soft tissue injuries.
If he's not match ready I'd prefer a cautionary approach.
Same with Billings, if another week is needed so be it.
Marshall for Campbell.
Byrnes for Windhager if he is due a break.
Byrnes has been close to BOG last two weeks and needs to be rewarded for his form.

Doesn’t stop running Jones
Sloppy ball user… bit like Jack Steven in that he bursts away at pace and doesn’t compose himself and kicks at full revs. Needs to steady.

Re: Changes for this week
Im sorry but Butler has to be left out this week - he has become the classic 'seagull' He simply refuses to commit his body to contests or get the hard ball. He needs to go back to Sandringham and Batchelor play him in the midfield, which will force him to get a taste of physical contact with his footy again.

AF rating was 43, really low indeed
Strangely, Pressure Acts- 21
I would drop him and tell him he's not coming back until Batchelor is happy with him

Re: Changes for this week
Pressure acts are only part of his role, football is about winning the ball and if he cant do that he doesnt deserve his spot in the side IMO. Byrnes or Billings can more than adequately fill his role plus give us midfield or wing options.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 02 May 2022 10:35pmButler got 4 kicks, 4 handballs.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 02 May 2022 9:58pm Im sorry but Butler has to be left out this week - he has become the classic 'seagull' He simply refuses to commit his body to contests or get the hard ball. Re: Changes for this week
I looked up Champion Data's definition of Pressure Acts, and honestly, they're such a basic thing, that if players didn't do over 25, they should be bloody dropped.
4 kicks+ 4 handballs from Butler are not good enough.
He needs 2 goals at least, and be involved in at least 8 or 9 scoring chains.
Otherwise, he's not getting involved enough.

Byrnes got his tyres pumped up by Batchelor.

Re: Changes for this week
I must declare that I am thinking Long - in place of Butler
With Billings back
With Jones back that gives us the options of Billings,Higgins, Gresham and Long to support King, Membrey and Marshall/Ryder
So we start with Steele, Crouch and Jones in the centre square supporting Ryder
We need to pressure their tall defenders by making them accountable and where Marshall and Ryder up forward should achieve that - given they learn from last week
Then the aforementioned - where Higgins, Long and Billings can all mark overhead
Long becomes important for his aggression and chase
Given that, where does Butler fit in?
It is at the MCG
Do we deploy Ross to one of Oliver or Petracca?
Gawn is their barometer - so we need to negate him
Their depth may be a bit too deep for us at this stage
And their maturity - we are still a young side
But you have to believe you can win

And out 21 helicopter hacks into our forward line
That was 5 a quarter with 1 to spare
No wonder it stood out as it did

Re: Changes for this week
Someone tell me what Butler is doing wrong.
What is he lacking? Forgotten how to do?
Has he been given instructions that don’t don’t suit him? Lost fitness?
I can’t see what is going on.
I don’t believe all this ‘defensive forward’ baloney.
I do t trust Long to replace him. Long could kick seven, miss seven, get seven posies or get seven Brownlow points ..Long has been nice off the back line (I think)
So if we drop Butler, then Gresh has to be the pocket and then Byrnes comes in as a mid fielder - and from what we’ve see. I don’t think Byrnes is as good at it as Gresh, but overall, on balance the team might be up.
Can you imagine a midfield of Ross, Steele, Crouch and Byrnes dealing with Pretracca and co?
And we need to stiffen up down back.
Highmore in!
Bytel?

Re: Changes for this week
I reckon the coaches have looked at each guy's strengths, and worked out tactics to maximise.
Each guy gets told where to run;
when they get the ball, their team-mates must run in certain directions, all that stuff.
Butler might have new instructions that haven't quite clicked yet, either with him or the other forwards.
If he gets dropped soon, we could deduce that he hasn't been following instructions. Perhaps.

Re: Changes for this week
Long's best game for the season was against Richmond when he replaced Higgins.
His pressure inside F50 is enormous.
Maybe Butler moves to Medical Sub this week and Long goes forward.
