The gray fifty
Robbie Gray always finds a way to stab a Saints fan in the heart but can someone explain what the 50m penalty was for? Can’t imagine it was decent when it was a mark. Nobody else near by. No footage of it being anything down field and no explanation on the TV commentary.

Re: The gray fifty
At that stage when the 50 was paid, Port were struggling to kick goals. The game was boring and if you want to retain your audience it’s best to try and have a close contest.
I reckon channel 7 and the AFL have instructed the umpires to try and even things up in ‘boring low scoring games’. There is no doubt that the umpire plucked it out of his arse and wanted to please his employer…who in turn was pleased that it turned out to be a close game in the end.

Re: The gray fifty
Just found someone in the game thread said it was for Jack Steele getting in the protected area so looked at it again and might be right

Gray is now 34. Can only hope he hangs up his boots soon enough. I can’t take any more of these losses against Port.

Yeah it is. But he made no effort to clear and stayed on a line towards the mark.

10 metre protected zone???CarlTaughtMeEnglish wrote: ↑Sun 01 May 2022 12:16am Just found someone in the game thread said it was for Jack Steele getting in the protected area so looked at it again and might be right
Probably there - but do we seriously ALWAYS give 10 metres?
Is that the same umpire who called not 15 for the Port 25-30 metre kick across the ground??
Was there a need to pay it - when Gray is looking to the other side - and SteelE not impacting the play at all. I doubt Gray knew he was even there

Re: The gray fifty
It was a random call that gifted them a goal.
