What was the 50 for?
Huge penalty in context of the result.
The AFL need to get rid of these types of penalties.
The time does not fit the crime!

And yet there is no forum that we can get a legitimate answer to this question.

We might get belted by Melbourne next week, whatever the conditions, that's my concern.devil saint wrote: ↑Sat 30 Apr 2022 11:16pm Really hoping for a dry MCG next week. Tonight hasn’t inspired any confidence in our ability to handle wet conditions.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

One bad game and those blokes appear ordinary…lol.
Yet next week they can set the world on fire
Fickle ?

In other words when these blokes cut loose next week don’t go jumping on the bandwagon

Injuries won't matter,Melbourne will kill us next week because we played in 88% humidity.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sat 30 Apr 2022 11:12pm Any one of those points go through as a goal and we win, harsh to criticise Ratten , he can't kick it for them.
4 shots in last 5mins all of which gettable and Higgins poster....on a dry track we would have thrashed them.
Huge game next week.
Any injuries?
Port will lose Friday night to the Bulldogs for the same reason.
Game should have been played in late June or early July with both teams having a bye the following week.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Our backline held up considering.
Our forwards let us down and the on ballers had a bad night. Port looks much more desperate and they left it too late in the game.

We have only beaten them once in 10 years.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sat 30 Apr 2022 11:12pm Any one of those points go through as a goal and we win, harsh to criticise Ratten , he can't kick it for them.

Tonight we wouldn't have beaten them anywhere. They were better than us.
I'm not making excuses for tonight. The one goal loss to Adelaide in Cairns last season was the difference between us playing finals and missing.
4.18 is terrible. If we miss finals marginally, this game will be the one.

Steele ran past too close in the protected area.

Correct, but shortly after a port player jogged past a saint in the middle of the ground and no 50. Consistency none

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
Some umpiring decisions didn’t help but that does not explain our poor kicking for goal and a number of dumb decisions by our players. Howard being the worst culprit but Webster and Long can be guilty of the same thing

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
Technically - maybe - but Steele was already in the protected zone and continued running forward to exit - he did not turn to interrupt the play - and was 'with' a Port player.
As I say - technically - but as previously stated - happens all the time and is not called - and then for it to 'gift' them a goal in the conditions WAS a bit rough.

Ratts needs to get serious and demand changes to Max and Higgins kicking technique. The flaws needs correcting now.

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
Not only kicking for goal.
The number of hack kicks - which all fell to the advantage of Port Adelaide including gifting them possessions in space in conditions where space was gold and which eventually won them the game.
There will be plenty of work to be done off watching the replays of this game.
Particularly the scoreboard outcome from the first quarter dominance (when we really should have iced the game)
And some players will be nervous.
We will see what Billings and Jones bring tomorrow - and Clark the week after.
Plus Marshall back
At least Geelong is at Docklands - and really a must win game to restore some reputation in the competition.
As are Adelaide and North Melbourne leading into the bye
From there it is 50/50
We have Brisbane, Geelong and Sydney twice - and getting some wins there is vital to our 2022 prospects.
You play finals to win them - and games such as tonight are instructive in assessing which players are capable of delivering and which players place their teammates under undue pressure.

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
I have to say as an AFL prime free to air TV, that game was a shocking spectacle win or lose. What Muppet in the AFL thought it would be a good idea to schedule a night game in Cains at the end of their wet season.
I'm happy Cairns gets to see some footy, but surely later in the year during the dry season would be a smarter option.

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
Why would you let Howard ever kick out?
I’d have liked to see Ratten try something in that game you could feel the train wreck coming
Throw Sinclair on the ball ????
Long up forward??
**** sub Campbell inject Lienert ….they did it???
No imagination but doesn’t excuse utterly pathetic goal kicking

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
And just to add, if anyone wonders why we persevere with Hannebery, tonight was instructive.
We hope and trust they can get Hannebery back onto the park across the second half of the season.

Re: Saints vs Port. Game thread
The lack of momentum in both their run ups is so bloody obvious. They never truly get their heads over the ball when they make contact. Lean way too far back.SaintDippa wrote: ↑Sat 30 Apr 2022 11:38pm Ratts needs to get serious and demand changes to Max and Higgins kicking technique. The flaws needs correcting now.
Easily fixed and should've been rectified by now. Basic s#!t
