Craig Devonport escapes jail time for fraud
Note the use of the "the court was told Devonport had difficulty adjusting to life after retirement from his AFL career line, despite the fraud happening 20 years after his retirement.
Perhaps Kenny's wild eyes and grabbing of the jumper at the G also contributed?

A former AFL player has been ordered to pay back $32,000 he defrauded and stole from a Gold Coast sports club.
Craig James Devonport, 52, will not spend any time behind bars for three crimes of dishonesty which took place in 2016 and 2017.
Devonport held a management position at the Broadbeach Cats AFL club during the time the offending occurred.
The Southport District Court heard Devonport used his position as co-signatory on a cheque account to cash six cheques for his own benefit to the sum of $20,700.
He also used the club’s UBET facility to withdraw cash on six occasions totalling $10,500 and asked a club employee to bring him $800 from the register, which he stole.
Devonport pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud and one count of stealing.
“Your offending is serious - it involved a substantial amount of money and it involved dishonestly abusing a position of trust,” Judge Michael Rackemann said.
“I accept from the material before me that you are remorseful for what you have done and that you are ashamed of your conduct and that you wish to make up for it.”
The court was told Devonport had difficulty adjusting to life after retirement from his AFL career.
He is no longer employed and suffers from chronic major depressive disorder.
The 52-year-old played 95 games at St Kilda and Carlton between 1989 and 1996.
Judge Rackemann sentenced Devonport to a fully suspended term of imprisonment of four years, nine months.
He was ordered to pay $32,000 restitution to the club.

Not able to decipher your post, but personally feel stealing from a community club is a pretty low act and he was very lucky to escape jail time.

His first charge for fraud was when he went to Carlton in 1996 and announced he'd be playing in the midfield alongside Williams and Bradley.

Re: Craig Devonport escapes jail time for fraud
A sad fall from grace. I was at the SCG when he kicked 11 goals for the Saints reserves against Swans , as a 17 year old playing on Mark Browning. He looked every bit as promising as Rod Owen but, like Rocket, aside from some flashes of brilliance he never lived up to his immense promise . Sadly he too seems to have struggled with life after footy.

It wasn't a payment for a sportsmen's night that they thought Craig didn't live up to the amount he asked for ?

95 games.
I think he only played a few games for Carlton.
Like other Saints who changed clubs, I think Weller played 2 games for Richmond.
A few others went to the Blues and played a handful.
Can't remember who.
I don't know how Devo didn't carry on with us to get to 150 or so.

Re: Craig Devonport escapes jail time for fraud
I knew Rice went to the Blues, but I was saying 'handful of games' lol.
Some of our guys were traded and only played less than 5 for their new clubs.
Some folks say a change of scenery can re-invigorate a player, but the ones who only played 5 or less for new club, well it didn't seem to work for those fellas.
I thought Rice played many for the Blues and was in a flag winning team?

Re: Craig Devonport escapes jail time for fraud
Devonport to Carlton for pick 19 was our best trade ever.
We picked up Barry Hall
Hall traded for picks 13 (Dal Santo), 17 (traded for Heath Black), 45 (traded for Trent Knobel)
We got pick 25 compensation for Dal Santo (I can't work out what happened to this and pretend to pay attention in this meeting)
Black was traded back to Freo and we got Fiora
Hall 88 games
Dal Santo 260 games
Black 54 games
Knobel 41 games
Fiora 62 games
Devonport played 1 game for Carlton. He had 4 disposals.

Update Pick 25 compensation for Dal Santo was traded along with pick 41 for Billy Longer and pick 48.
Pick 48 was used on Josh Bruce.
Josh Bruce traded for pick 32 and pick 51 (Ryan Byrnes)
Pick 32 was used as part of the Zak Jones trade

Yeah Ricey was a success at Carlton and big Val, both of em. Val was an icon up there.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Fri 29 Apr 2022 1:46pm I knew Rice went to the Blues, but I was saying 'handful of games' lol.

I notice ‘our’ Matty Parker absent from Richmond last night, unceremoniously dropped after a handful of games. I wonder if we’ll get to see the likes of him again.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Sorry, my brother in law had my phone for three days whilst I was in hospital ( his fell off the ferry...no joke)D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Thu 28 Apr 2022 12:58pmNot able to decipher your post, but personally feel stealing from a community club is a pretty low act and he was very lucky to escape jail time.
He was posting on saintsational. He's not a member butba life long Saints fan.
I asked him what the hell he was on about...he said why is it wrong for a man to steal from a sports club in the community whilst the AFL stole 100 million from sports clubs to fund the Gold Coast Club. I understand what's he is trying to say but don't know how the hell it relates or how many beers he was on.
Just looking where else he posted.
He posted some s*** about St Kilda forwards being shite and a few members ripped their own tits off in their reply lol.
I'm not sure I'll even try to backtrack his b.s. that he posted. I'm just moving on.
