The first head knock was crazy courage
He doesn’t need to do that!
Second one was unlucky

Re: Paddy mcCartin
The first head knock was very courageous but unfortunately to say he doesn't need to do that is wrong.
He either needs to be able to throw himself fully into the contest as he did or he needs to retire, there is no middle ground.
If your body does not allow you to be fully 100% committed to play the game then you simply shouldn't be playing.
It is a harsh reality but that is the nature of the beast when there is so much money involved.

On the AFL website, where Llyodo and Barret review the weekend's games, Llyod said that one of those actions could have been avoided. The other, he said, was pure bad luck. Made me think of GT saying the Kossie's peripheral vision should have alerted him to that terrible crunch he copped, and from which he never fully recovered.SinCitySainter wrote: ↑Wed 27 Apr 2022 4:47pmThe first head knock was very courageous but unfortunately to say he doesn't need to do that is wrong.

Re: Paddy mcCartin
You don’t need to recklessly back into an oncoming pack
He could easily turned around to be front and centre
I suppose if you are playing him as an intercept defender, he will go for the mark. Being in the hold is a dangerous place to be on a footy field

Re: Paddy mcCartin
The problem is if he doesn't back into the pack but he stands off from the collision then he gets the criticism of not going when it is his turn.
Players are constantly criticized when they try to avoid contact.
Just look on here the number of times one of our own players is called a pea heart because he didn't risk getting his neck broken.
It is a game that glorifies the courageous acts on the field and a worships players who show a complete disregard for personal safety.
Until we change the mindset then players have no option but to back into packs and throw themselves head first into oncoming traffic.

Re: Paddy mcCartin
Not really
It’s about being smart
There are some situations where you have to go - opponents goes, or you can impact the contest.
But he lacked a bit of awareness, because there definitely was contact coming and the result of the contest was no different other than him getting knocked out!
I know it was instinctive for him and he’s very courageous
But in this instance, if he turned his head early, saw the contest… he could have just stayed F&C
