Was playing really well before Hayes went down. Only got better. One of our most important players now. Been a big reason for our current form.

I’ve been waiting for the votes thread

Gets the 5 tonight from me. Steele played a captain’s game… Battle did something the team needed during a crises that all of us would have bet was beyond his capability and he starred

Super impressive game

So appropriate on ANZAC weekend that the game was won by a great Battle.

Very good first half, an outstanding second half by Josh.

I considered it… hard to see where he fits and stalled a bit since 2020.
Has been a good move putting him down back and I’m glad it’s working out for him and us

AFL app shows Higgins AF points of 113
Battle next on 103, then Steele.

I disagree with them, 2 easy missed goals should actually remove some points IMHO.
Higgo got 18 touches while Battle got 23, and I reckon Battle's counted for more value for the team.

A footballers footballer.

Was never going anywhere, has been one of the important ingredients required to build out next flag side for a long while now.

As one of the commentators said last night, playing him in the ruck was like driving a Rolls Royce to the tip (or something like that).

And it’s the truth: he’s a player who exudes class in everything that he does. But what’s his position? That’s always been the enigma with Battle.

On a couple of occasions last night when he failed to win the ruck contest but then came away with the ball, he looked like he could be an old-fashioned Michael Tuck-style ruck rover!

Of course I’m dreaming.

Went into the ruck and played midfield like he spent half his career developing the necessary skills and attributes. Handy footballer.

+1

Love the attitude and love the versatility that he provides.

Also…love his tackles when he crunches the opposition and softens them up

He’s one of my favourites 8-)

18 touches and 7 shots on goal for a small forward = ELITE

Cast back to a game v Melbourne at the MCG, Battle playing as a forward.

Showed his class and toughness that match - until he broke his cheekbone and promptly missed plenty (maybe the rest of the season?).

Has had his concerns with physical contact injury.

But has always been the player he is

Has had some education put into him over the journey to 60 odd games (including the key outer defensive position when Carlisle was injured).

Hopefully that toughness, skill and attack on the ball will see him consolidate as the key outer line defensive player.

193 key defensive players can thrive, but the likes of May are also over 100kg so they can protect space.

One of the skills not mentioned is his disposal.

We are currently dropping our rucks back into the "hole" in defence as required (although they have been out positioned a couple of times looking at other players in a questioning manner as the opposition mark. We will fix that up)
