Re: Draw flatters us
How's that performance against Hawthorn looking now????
We need to beat who we play - don't worry about their position on the ladder and how they have played against others.
Each week - bring the heat - and at the end of the year - 16 wins should be enough to get us in the eight - lol!
As I said in another thread - maintain 132% and the rest will take care of itself

Re: Draw flatters us
We’ve played 2 teams currently in the 8.
Beat one of them interstate and smashed the other one (also away)

Re: Draw flatters us
I disagree that our results are flattered by the draw.
Our wins include -
1: Freo in Perth and only team to beat Freo
2: Hawthorn by 69 points (Hawks have won 3 of their other 4 games and only other loss to Carlton by 1 point)
3: Tigers by 33 points (their biggest loss for the year)
4: Gold Coast (biggest win against them for several years).
Four excellent results that stand up well compared to the rest of the competition.
We haven't played ANY of the bottom six teams yet.

Re: Draw flatters us
Agree that we need a few more weeks for the ladder to settle out. But the truth is that by revealed form of opponents (add up their ladder points), we have had the second toughest draw of any team in the 8. Geelong have had a marginally harder draw. One thing to watch for though, all of those teams we play twice this season currently sit in the top 8!

Re: Draw flatters us
Good discussion and I thought Hawks win would bring the horde - Hawks are a young side , up and down and we certainly played well.
As I said I’m enjoying how we are playing- to me the biggest difference is in key areas:
1. We are actually running games out - super fit
2. Skills - it’s no surprise that having the ball in Sinclair or Hills or NWM for that matter forward of centre has helped us
3. Run n carry - Gresham has added done much needed outside run
4. Backline looks solid and Lienert another good user out of the back half
5. King believes but he’s well supported by Higgins/Membrey
It’s all good news but I’ll still reserve judgment till we play some proven quality

Re: Draw flatters us
Did someone mention NWM!!???
He is the most promising star to appear, and we have hardly noticed or mentioned..
He has slipped out radar a bit. Not telling yet, but this is the best young player to come since King, perhaps even better!!

Re: Draw flatters us
A good discussion Teflon.
Good things have happened over the past 4 weeks and some positive signs coming from our midfield. It's still short of some depth of quality but help is on it's way.
However still a way to go before we can mix it with the top 4 however based on the last 3.5 games, we could finish as high as 5th if all the moons align for the remainder of the season.
I was going to be happy with 4 wins from the first 6 weeks. I'll be happy with 2 wins from the next 4 games.

Re: Draw flatters us
The umpires and AFL are working together to sabotage us by giving us the ‘hardest’ draw year after year…
Yep, completely reasonable.
SD?

We missed the 8 and copped a hard draw. You tell us why.

Re: Draw flatters us
I have to AGREE with Curly.
Last year all commentators agreed we had by far the worst draw and this year isn't much better.

By SD are you referring to me???
If so - please crawl back into your sad little hole
My issue with you and Curly - and I have called you on it before is
The world is NOT Black and White
Neither of you can accept grey and in doing so you p!ss a lot of people on this forum off
Please read and understand:
- I used to umpire - so I know the difficulties
- Not all the time are umpires going to call everything - and get it right
- There is no conspiracy - just a certain level of incompetence
- The Umpires are paid TOO bl00dy well to just do a 'near enough is good enough'
- If the AFL came out and actually discussed the incorrect calls and gave us an interpretation that they used (and stuck to it) there would be a lot less angst - instead they say 'nothing to see here'
- I, as a St Kilda supporter, see things that I would call one way - others may call it differently
- Again, as a St Kilda supporter, I am not going to stand up and take Richmond's point of view in a 50/50
Having read this - if you try and drag me into a fight between you and Curley you WILL be reported for bating
If, perchance. SD meant Sunday Dance - then please ignore the above
Oh - and above all - I hate the misuse of Grammar - lol

Re: Draw flatters us
Fair thread.
The signs are promising but let's see where we are at after round 10.
We’ve had a good draw so far but the season goes for 22 games, not 5. I thought that it was well understood that we have been ranked as having relatively difficult draws the last few years.

I was referring to your previous post having a go at me out of nowhere intimating that I was inventing the “we always get screwed with the draw” ridiculous claims around here.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 18 Apr 2022 9:12pmBy SD are you referring to me???

But if you’re bringing up umpiring…
Never have I said it’s black and white. Never have I claimed they don’t make mistakes. Why do you continue to state otherwise? I’d be happy if you could find any post to the contrary. Here’s a hint though - it doesn’t exist.
I agree with everything you’ve said above re umpiring. All I do is reject any notion there is a conspiracy or inherent bias against us (same as with the draw). So why do you like to misrepresent my position?
