Rowan Marshall
Is clearly a ruckman not a forward
Ryder is a better tap ruckman, but Marshall plays his best footy around the ground in the ruck when he is #1

Re: Rowan Marshall
I don't agree he's #1 when Ryder is available but he's the best #2 in the comp.
Played a cracker today, beat Witts.
Definitely a better #1 & better #2 than a key forward but handy if he has to rest there.

Re: Rowan Marshall
Has played all his best games when Ryder is not playing
And his best season 2019 without Ryder
A much better ruckman than forward
IMO a 8/10 ruckman, and 3/10 forward

Re: Rowan Marshall
Does that matter? We are a better team with Ryder & Marshall in the side. Would you rather Ryder not play?

Re: Rowan Marshall
This is not about B&F votes, it's about what makes us a better side. I may be wrong but our win / loss record suggests we are.

Re: Rowan Marshall
Agree with the sentiment, but I think he is better than 3/10 forward.
And i think if we can split the ruck duties 50/50 with Ryder we can be so much better than either Ryder or Marshall dominating the time in ruck. The variation it gives us makes us less predictable.

Re: Rowan Marshall
He's no Jayden McLean as a forward but he's better than 3/10. Cox from Collingwood is nearly 3/10.

Re: Rowan Marshall
He averages less than a goal per game. Less than 2 marks i50. Is not a reliable shot.
IMO he’s a pretty average forward.
It’s pretty obvious he’s a better ruckman than forward.
We win games for a multitude of reasons
If you put it down to ruckmen that’s a bit simplistic.
Ryder gives some extra clearances
Marshall give extra possessions around the ground
Both are good players - both are Number 1 ruckmen

Re: Rowan Marshall
Hes a lot better than 3 out of 10.. he's a huge presence around the ground and being the connecting lead up and foil for King..
Hes a stud and whether he's in the ruck or up forwardbsaints grow a leg

Re: Rowan Marshall
I know one thing for sure, RoMo is destined to become one of the premier ruckman in the comp before long, if he isn't already delivering on that.

Can't disagree with most of that.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 16 Apr 2022 6:36pm He averages less than a goal per game. Less than 2 marks i50. Is not a reliable shot.

At least you have upgraded Marshall from below average to pretty average.
Re: Rowan Marshall
How good is it with Ryder AND Marshall?
I would not define Marshall as a ruckman.
I would define him as a utility player courtesy of the skills as a footballer he brings to the contest.
He is an amazing footballer.
That he can go forward and drop back, also being an around the ground option, is a point of difference Marshall brings.
And the skills of Ryder allow Marshall to be used in that way.
So you name Ryder to lead the rucks (rightly) and Marshall forward.

Re: Rowan Marshall
Both are best.
And let’s not forget, Ryder is also a handy tall forward.

Re: Rowan Marshall
Thought Marshall may be carrying a bit an injury yesterday, but a very brave game nevertheless.
Marshall is great value around the ground, a solid addition to our midfield.
Ryder is an outstanding tap ruckman, to be honest I never realised just exactly how good till he came to St Kilda. (expect that tap out to advantage which stole the game for Port Adelaide against us).
Also liked Jack Hayes game, he a real tough competitor, and reliable.

Re: Rowan Marshall
Its a good problem to have, but it does raise the irony that Ryder was pushed forward most of his career as the 2nd ruck because he was a capable forward. Now the same is happening to Marshall. At least we can be comfortable in the knowledge that Marshall can step up to the No 1 ruckman when required. Even Hayes does ok given the height disparities.
Heath rucked against another 19/20 year old yesterday, but showed he may develop quicker than expected.
