Kent... 6/10 was very busy and went hard.
Connolly... 5/10 tough day. Wasn't able to provide the same run as usual
Peris... 6/10 something to work with here. Once he learns a bit more he'll be a good player
Kyle...5/10 this guy is super quick. Chases and tackles hard. Just needs to learn how to get an easy kick
Heath... 4/10 Will be a player. Fitness will take time. Great attitude.
Allison 2/10. Another disappointing performance. Looks lost out there
Campbell 8/10. Our best.
Highmore...6/10. Solid as usual
Owens. 5/10. Busty early but faded. Needs to develop his outside running
Owens. "Busty early", ohh Matron, the cheeky blighter.

I though that the dozen Listed players each showed something at various times

Apart from Kent they are still young and developing

Again I do not understand the knock on Allison

Allan will be better for the experience - and if our injury list allows some experience around him

The scoreboard was disappointing but at this level it is not necessarily the scoreboard - it is the little things the kids do which say they can play the game (which you would assume they can, hence on an AFL List)

The Sandy ressult just further highlights the fragility of our list and the lack of depth. We need so much luck with injury this season.

Was Campbell good enough to be back up ruckman to Marshall or do we go with undersized Jack Hayes.

Jarrods Witts is 208cm tall and in good form. Marshall and Campbell are 201cm & 200cm . Campbell is slow without a big leap. Hayes is only 194. Simply couldn't compete with Witts in the ruck. Hayes offers much more around the ground, though. It'll be a hard call for the selectors. We are ill equipped to have a genuinely competitive second ruckman in this game, unfortunately.

Suns ruck combo is Witts and Chol. That is a pretty hand combination at the ruck contests.

Pittonet missed for the Blues and so they went with Tom De Koning, and the Hayes sized Silvagni.

HOs for the game were Wiits 42, DK 15, Chol 10, SOSOS 4.

Chol is 200 cm with a big leap. Chol is mainly playing as a key forward.

While slow around the ground, Witts is a HO beast and had the better of Gawn this season in the ruck, though Gawn and Jackson had the edge in the around the ground work..

Even with Paddy we may well have lost the HO's. Without him that is certain.

Our rucks need to exploit Witts around the ground. Though Wiits is handy around the ground despite his lack of pace.

Against the Pies for the first half a game our midfield was poor to our losing ruck, and so how well we rove off Witts will quite possibly determine who wins.

Ahem. With all due respect (wait for it!), rubbish, Sir!

We are not about developing the Sandringham VFL senior team, we are about developing the St Kilda AFL team. The latter seems to be coming along "nicely", in gentlemanly terms. Our midfield, which I recall being widely bagged by many St Kilda "supporters" is quickly becoming the one of competition's most potent. In a few weeks time you can add Hunter Clark and Jack Billings to the Sandy team if you truly believe our list is lacking depth. "Depth players", or spuds as ignoramuses cruelly have called them in the past, currently playing include Paddy Ryder, Callum Wilkie, Mason Wood, Jarod Lienert and Jack Hayes. These guys are chips of the gold casino variety no McCain's!

Add them to the 12 who played and the side would do a heap better.

Absolutely nothing wrong with our depth.

On depth and the side Sandringham put on the park last weekend:-

(NB: The games in brackets are as at the start of the 2022 Season)

Wilkie (63) Howard (85) Paton (35)
Coffield (52) Battle (56) Clark (60)
Hill (190) Steele (119) Jones (119)
Billings (144) Marshall (65) Higgins (62)
Membrey (131) King (38) Gresham (95)
Ryder (269) Crouch (113) Sinclair (119)
Butler (86) Ross (160) Wanganeen-Milera (0) Hanneberry (223)
Windhager (0) Med sub.

So:-
Coffield -> Webster
Clark -> Lienart
Jones -> McKenzie
Billings -> Wood
Higgins -> Long
Hanneberry -> Windhager

There is our depth.

Each of the "replacement" players are doing their job - and will be unlucky to return to the VFL side.

Also, this side is generally very inexperienced with 12 players under the 100 game mark and only Ryder, Hanneberry and Hill as 200 (or near in the case of Hill) players.

This is why the next 2 years will see this side come of age (noting that Ryder and Hanneberry would have, in the normal course of events, retired - or maybe not!!)

This is where the development of Heath is vital (or the recruitment of a quality ruckman noting the nibbles we have put out over the last couple of seasons to rucks on the Essendon and North Melbourne Lists).

The mids have developing options we have already seen at AFL level (so Bytel, Byrnes, Windhaher and Owen to date).

Plus we will continue to Draft and recruit.

And enjoy the development of the kids straight from schoolboy footy to VFA, including those such as Adams and Allison and the "speed brigade")

For all the negative comment you see on this site from some, under this Administration and under this Coaching and support panel St Kilda is in good hands.

Now for a Senior Coach this weekend!!!!

Enright?

And, just to add, cast your mind back to deliberately recruiting mid-aged State League talent because our List did not enjoy mid-aged experience

And the one season recruitment of Frawley and McKernan to add experienced back up for a season (so to cover for Carlisle and his problematic back and Ryder and his age).

Mind you, that got us Wilkie!!

It is all a never ending process.

Reality appears on the horizon about round 8 by my calculations. Let's have a chat then.

Billings, Jones, Clarke, Higgins are all first picked types in 2022 that might be back by round 8 when our depth gets its first test against this year's outright flag favourites.

I'm looking forward to that game.
