Corey Enright
I wonder if he's the one who said 'get Hill out of the backline!'
Also, our defenders, Battle, Wilkie, Howard, Webster, etc seemed to be able to gel together like the Borg from Star Trek.
Tigers got plenty of entries, but when we got that incredible run of goals, they all combined together to repel all invaders. Without giving away many free kicks.
They were rarely flustered, they didn't panic, they just rebounded it.
Do we give most of the credit to Corey, for teaching them how to be great defenders, or is it a team effort by the coaches and players? They know their own weaknesses and strengths.

Re: Corey Enright
What a clever comment
Ratten did not get a kick either - maybe we should sack him and save the money
I thought the OP raised a good point and the back line has evolved - but ........

BM doesn't think coaches are important, but I think Corey is still flint hard, so there is hope.

You’re right
Players with poor physiques are generally better!
On coaches
They are important, but ultimately the players win games
I’ve seen good teams win - with poor coaches
I’ve seen s*** teams lose - with good coaches
From a personal standpoint
I’ve played under both good and bad coaches
Neither effected how I played.

Yep, get rid of the coaches & the conditioning staff. Just have the players log in to Saintsational.

Re: Corey Enright
Quite frankly, in conversation with the Coach he is on another planet including by referencing his support staff
Every move is documented and audited
The research and the anticipation is amazing - hence the number of support staff feeding into their computers
And, for the record, Alan Richardson and Brett have a close friendship
Clarkson, for his record, is another Langer with the same outcome as Langer
Generally players just find him too intense
In Rattan and his support staff St Kilda have the best of the successful Hawthorn model - and now Geelong
It will pay dividends
Maybe 2 years away when you list the players on our List and put the games played alongside their names - and we will add players across that 2 years
St Kilda is in good hands

Re: Corey Enright
Unless we're on the inside we'll never know the internal workings. The only things we can judge is what happens on the field, and to some degree team selection.
We can see when a team is disorganised, and we can see if the required level of talent is at hand. Sometimes we see a coach back a player for inexplicable reasons, like when Richardson played Longer over Hickey.
Bottom line, though, is that players ultimately make coaches, and by extension, recruiters and list managers determine the fate of a coach even before his appointment.

Re: Corey Enright
Point wasn’t about my footy
It was about the fact that players don’t need coaches to be good
But the coaches definitely need players to be good
But you would’ve got that yeah? Moron!

There's a poster on here who thinks he would have done a better job than Richo as a coach.
Thinks coaching is dead set easy.

It's not about me. It's just a coincidence that I thought I made my coaches look good and they did nothing for me.

It probably was him that told Hill to get out. We need more outsiders to come in and call out things like this.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Fri 08 Apr 2022 11:21pm I wonder if he's the one who said 'get Hill out of the backline!'

I hope he also said that if Hill cannot play wing then he plays in the reserves.
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Stop making sh*t up to big note yourself!!!
I said coaches didn’t effect how well I played, I was in control of that.

Re: Corey Enright
Sounds like you would've been a nightmare to coach.
It's not about one or the other making things look good. It's about working together to make sure an individuals contribution to a system makes the team perform better than the sum of each individuals performance.
Positions like the wing (ironically enough given this thread is about Hill) require a lot of unrewarded running to support the teams structure.
If the coaching team don't have a structure or if you have players who don't think the coaches have anything to contribute and therefore don't listen to said structures you're team isn't going to perform as well as it otherwise could.

Re: Corey Enright
Hill hasn’t played Wing for 18 months - should be
Not sure I was a nightmare to coach, I just wanted to play well (not look good) every game… and not because of a good or bad coach… just had pride in my performance regardless
I would have thought most players would be the same, at any level.

Re: Corey Enright
BM. You are right in a way. Players should not have to be motivated by Coaches. But unfortunately, some do.
However if you had 22 players committed to playing their best that they can, it becomes a bit of a GWS curse. Individualism does not win Premierships.
We now have a backline coach that is combining the efforts of the back six into a cohesive unit.
That’s what a good Coach does.
