Seems like a policy to debut the new players early.

Great to get an early look at them.

Is NWM injured?
Maybe he is the replacement for Higgins

Glad Long is named in the starting 18.
Deserves it.

Who gets dropped from the I/C?
My thinking on the bench (in order of probability)
- Butler
- DMack
- Wood
- Paton
- Hayes (sadly...maybe for balance? Too tall if he's in?)

Can't see Byrnes getting in

Hopefully Windhager can manage the step up, all the best Marcus!

As long as Paton is ok from the training knock the emergencies look like - J.Hayes, L.Connolly, R.Byrnes, T.Highmore.

Going by the training thread with whispers of Paton (concussion) & Marshall (quad issue).

If Paton out...

Likely bench is: Wood, McKenzie, Butler, Hayes

Medi-sub: Connolly

If Paton & Marshall out...

Medi-sub: Byrnes

Connolly on bench. Hayes into 18 & Ryder into ruck

Ghost a poster on BF said Marshall left training early to get treatment but didnt look troubled, hopefully thats correct. I would hope the club wouldnt name Paton if he had been concussed?

Me too IS but I suspect he's still being assessed and monitored. I hope Marshall is fine because quads seem to last a season.

If true about Paton, he should avoid training & only play proper matches where he doesn't get injured & hurt.

I was at training...Paton definitely didn't look good after the head clash. Both he and Kyle went into the rooms for treatment...Kyle came back out with his head bandaged...Paton didn't reappear!! And Marshall didn't look happy when he left training early with what appeared to be a quad issue!!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it......no I don't want to read about it anymore!!!

Ouch not ideal - but thanks Scoop. If thats means they miss then Hayes plays another & Connolly also comes in.

Huge losses, if true

Good luck to Windhager - he’s earned it

BTW - no one can accuse him of not having an AFL body, he’s a unit! And he’s 18yo

Interesting, Higgins (inj), Hayes (omitted)

I think Hayes is a bit unlucky to be honest. Especially when our forward line functioned quite well and we ran over the top of Richmond.

Still, I'm looking forward to watching Windhager.

I'm at a loss as to why he'd be dropped. Losing our best small forward to concussion & now drop a player that was a part of a forward line that put Richmond to the sword for the final 45 minutes of the match. I think he's unlucky.

Still, I'll enjoy watching Windhager's debut.

It appears Hayes a victim of us not wanting to go top heavy on the wide expanses of the G…Hawks very good at transitioning out of their defensive 50.
He’ll be back in soon enough when Paddy gets rested.

Let's hope we haven't gone for too much run.

As soon as we go back to long bombs to Max King as our sole method of attack, we are lost.

It is vital we have a strong physical presence down there to stop King being monstered by two or three defenders and to split the opposition defence. I guess it will have to be either Paddy or Marshall, because Membrey - very good forward though he is - isn't it.

Hayes will be back soon enough I suspect. Very stiff to be dropped after, for once, the forward line functioned as it should.

All that said, looking forward to seeing Windhager. I hope he and NWM light it up

I reckon the G would be ideal for Hayes and the way he plays- might bite us on the bum.

Whether it was Hayes or Windhager in the team, King needs to be on his bike and move around. He was not mobile enough in the first three quarters.

King needs to move, and the players upfield need to kick it so he marks on the move. Hays or Windhager in the team does not alter that.
