Why have you got confidence in Nick Walsh? Because he works at the club??

BTW
Rob Harvey (87kg) and Nathan Buckley (90kg) were units!

But size is not what I’m talking about, he is not an elite looking specimen
He is not lean, has no definition and looks like a suburban footballer in body shape

He is a professional athlete FFS
All he has to do is train and play footy.

Maybe he should look more like Erin Phillips

BTW
Hayes has the build of a state league footballer. It will improve as he spends longer in the AFL system. He’s had a few months, Clark 4 years!

That's an interesting perception IS. We obviously disagree. I think it's pretty rude to now claim he's unprofessional and question his work ethic. I doubt that would be a description those close to him or those at St Kilda would use for Hunter. Each to their own I guess.

I go on what I see

He doesn’t figure in the top dozen in the time trials, he doesn’t have an AFL body, and he’s meant to be an AFL Mid

Compare his running and physique to that of Bailey Smith, Andrew Brayshaw, Adam Cerra, Sam Walsh, Matthew Rowell, Noah Anderson
All top 10 picks and stating Mids with athletic bodies

Put simply
He doesn’t look AFL midfield fit to me.

B.M., don't try to hint I'm comparing Hayes and Clark. Your 2022 catch phrase "flint hard" was used as a reason Hayes should not be selected for round 1. Nothing to do with Clark. You simply claimed that he should not be selected because he did not have a "flint hard" body. If that's the case he proved that perhaps a "flint hard" (???) body is not required.

Yes, I have confidence in Nick Walsh. Who should I put my confidence in? I take it that you don't?

Clarke has been injured for a while now and I have no idea if his physique changed since last year.

What I do know is that Sinclair has magnificent calves. Check them out. They're sublime.

Clark and Coffield will significantly improve this side because they are both highest class young footballers- both about the 60 game mark (noting both have endured injuries - Coffield from his breakout first quarter v Fremantle at Docklands)
And so they should their both first round picks 7 & 8. Not saying they can't for fill their potential but both have had a bad run with injury & form . Both drafted 2017 & these picks are gold & what do we have to show for it in 2022 not much yet. Lets hope they can both can get a lucky break & be an integral part of the next Saints flag .

Why has the thread gone from Sincs to 'Clark not having an AFL-ready body' and 'not working hard enough on the track'

You build muscle in the gym. Not on the track.
Calling Clark 'unprofessional' is a severe slight on his character.
You have no idea what efforts he puts in at training and the gym.
Leave it to the folks employed by the club, who have the job of monitoring fitness, strength, etc.

End rant

Underrated by Saints supporters for many years.

Also by the umpires. Second in Trevor Barker Award last year and not a Brownlow vote.

John Pierk, reporting in The Age for the Saints last two games did not put Sinclair in the best players and yet he was arguably BOG in both matches.

People forget he was the ONLY Saints player rated elite by Champion Data as far back as 2018. https://www.foxsports.com.au/.../cbd981 ... 432b78bfba...
Good op StPeter

There were a few of us who didn’t underrate Sincs. I was looking for some threads and posts from early in his career and surprise, surprise! You started a very similar thread 6 years ago. Well done and good call

I disagree he's underrated by supporters. He's just gotten better - a LOT better.
If he can become part of the midfield rotation he will have gone from clever but low impact small forward to gun mid in his career, for which he deserves all the plaudits he is getting.

When Robbo brought up that he left out Sinclair, Ratts tried almost to downplay and divert his influence and participation in the mid-field.

Maybe it suits them Sinclair going under the radar.
Yeah, noted that. Good pick up. Hope Sincs keeps flying under the radar for the foreseeable future.
Ratts on Steele=Amazing leader!
Ratts on Ross= Gives us experience!
Ratts on Crouch= He's a bull and gives his all!
Ratts on Sinclair= Next question, move along nothing to see here

Reckon old Ratts is well aware of what Sincs is. He just wants a few more weeks of where the rest of the comp hasn't figured it out.
Sincs keeps putting up these performances and he won't he able to hide him forever. He's our only other A grader besides Steele ATM.
Oh well. You’ve let the proverbial out of the proverbial now 8-)

I'll bite - I dont think anyone is suggesting Clark is not a good footballer. The point I was making is if he wants to go to the next level and play as a full time midfielder he will need to improve his strength/physique. Until he does I believe he is selling himself and the club short, as there is plenty of room for improvement. We all just want to see these kids reach their absolute best!

Have a look at Windhager & Owens they already have more muscle definition than Clark. Thats not just genetics thats something they have worked hard on as teenagers. Clark simply hasnt done the work in the gym, its as obvious as that.

You see Clark on a 60" TV screen.
And perhaps from behind the fence at training, from 10m away.

Nick Walsh and many other professional coaches see Clark up close and personal.
They see him in the gym, what weights he is lifting, which I bet you've never done.

BTW 'it's not genetics' and 'hasn't done the work in the gym, it's as obvious at that'

You seem to be one of those people who jump to conclusions and decide you're an expert, when in fact you know 3/5 of FA.
You really have no idea, champ

Clark is a very good footballer, very courageous, good skills, great step and vision, can find the ball.

Could be every bit as good as the players I’ve mentioned before

But, put simply

He is not fit enough to take the next step, blind Freddy can see that. I know injuries have curtailed him a bit, but he’s just not a power athlete.

Great article on Seb Ross a few years ago

He was talking about his first 3 years, and how he was struggling to get a game. It all cam down to professionalism and work ethic. He was not a natural runner, in fact it was a deficiency. So he got to work and improved his running power, to the point where he was top 3 in the club!
It was no coincidence that in 2016 he improved markedly and became a starting inside mid. I think Hunter is a better player than Seb, but if he doesn’t improve his running he won’t have as good a career.

It’s not about him getting bigger, it’s about him being in better shape

We have some very good role models at St Kilda and Seb is one of the best. The captain and the Skunk too

You have to make sacrifices to become consistent and to be in your teams best players every week. You have to make sacrifices to become elite. You have to make sacrifices to be considered a top footballer

I’m not just talking about food and diet and beer drinking either. It’s the time you invest in your craft and in improving yourself as an athlete. Maybe some guys just spend too much time relaxing or gaming or socialising.

Plenty of years for relaxing, socialising, beer drinking and partying after you finish your AFL career
